It isn’t that hard to come up with hypotheses, based on the most probable assumptions given the empirically well-established General Theory of Trumpativity.
Principle #1: it’s (almost) always about money.
Principle #2: it’s (almost) always about Russia.
Josh has started the dig into #2. Now #1 is emerging from the fog. All that remains is the basic principle of narrative construction in the geometry of Trump space, which is (almost) entirely projective.
Principle #3. If Trump attributes X to an enemy, he’s doing X and trying to distract from it.
Yes, Trump and his teammates are deeply interested in … corruption. Now let’s see how the dynamics play out.

I started my comments up above on this thread saying they should have made clear that Chump is the Big Kahuna in this story, not Perry or Ghoulzie or his putzes.
I should have also said I was glad to see the deeper dive by TPM on this…even though they seem to be very careful about not claiming Chump is looking for ways to profit from these dealings. I don’t think the press hounding Perry or Ghoulzie is hitting the nail on the head…but with those two imbeciles and Ghoulzie’s addiction to TV…he could be on Fox screaming that:
“there is nothing wrong with the President swinging extortion Petro deals with Putin. I did not say it was OK. I didn’t say he did it. What I said was, if he did it, there is nothing wrong with that. Mommy!”

Parnas’ and Fruman’s business angle appears to have been to find a way to replace Ukraine’s central European gas providers with American ones, using their political clout in the form of Perry and Giuliani to have a stake in the deal.
Chow, the regional energy expert, told TPM that the deal did not make sense, in part because they appeared to lack the necessary “political protection” that one needs to operate in Ukraine, and in part because of limits that the country’s infrastructure imposes on LNG imports.
“This is what they claim; but it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” he said. “So I wonder if that’s just a cover for what they are really up to.”
I say, maybe we should let Chump do whatever he wants over there. Keep him busy, and lord knows he will bring the whole F’ing place down around their heads. Putin, he’s all yours. Just take him away please.
