The report released Thursday by the law enforcement arm of Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources is a muddied picture of a July 4 altercation in the woods replete with alcohol, fuzzy property lines and conflicting stories.
The word “revelers”, used several times in the article to describe the drunk-off-their-asses/pro-confederacy/property rights group, tends to imply that crowd has unearned positive qualities.
I’d make a solid wager, however, that aspects of the DNR’s proposed report got fed back to the white guy’s legal team prior to publication. Just in time, in fact, for their legal team to proactively align with the DNR points before the alleged offenders issued a public statement 10 or so days after the incident occurred.
Oh, puleeze, I’m innocent, the alcohol made me do it. The authorities are sure taking their time trying to bring some justice. Ha! Good luck with the justice.
Not surprising the report is essentially a whitewash: some equivocation, some bothsidery, some citations, but mostly, “we can walk away from this because (wink, wink) we didn’t actually lynch the ni… no one was, you know, actually lynched.”
I live in southern Indiana and spend a considerable amount of time in Bloomington. Bloomington is such a neat college town and is quite a liberal oasis in our state. However, the surrounding area is filled with your small and extremely conservative farming towns. And that area of the state, in particular, is crawling with backwoods racists. For more info, look up KKK in the state of Indiana. They pretty well took over our state government for a period of time and 1/4 of white people in certain areas of state identified as members. The collision of these 2 cultures and inclusion of alcohol is like a powder keg. My state makes me really sad sometimes.
According to eyewitnesses the words “get a noose” were shouted several times. I haven’t read the report yet but if that ain’t in there something is very wrong. Revelers? That’s stretch.
