A leaked draft of the Supreme Court’s majority opinion on a Mississippi abortion ban revealed that a majority of the conservative justices has voted to strike down Roe v. Wade.
He’s the same pathetic, petty man I first was introduced to during his nomination hearings. Thanks for this too, GWB. Asshole’s had this draft ready since he was appointed.
Five Key Reasons to be elated that we finally have a message people actually care about, to help us win the midterm elections. Historic job numbers didn’t budge the needle. This one will, and we’re getting an early start on engaging voters on the issue.
Well, a lot of people will be unhappy about this but, is there anyone who didn’t see this coming? For those who might not have seen this coming, will it affect their vote this November? How many potential Democrats will actually try to blame Biden for this? Finally, how will this decision weigh against inflation in the next election.
We’ll see but, my guess is that the Democrats will still get blown out in November and Biden will (rather ironically) manage to get at least some of the blame for letting this happen on his watch.
I don’t have the tools that would enable me to speak to the strength or weakness of a Supreme Court decision. But I know two things: I don’t hear a compelling-to-me argument anywhere in there. And I know banning abortion has been the white whale relentlessly, mindlessly pursued by a major element of the GOP coalition since the Roe decision was made decades ago. This court was created to make that payoff, and now it seemingly has. It is a tool of the Republican party, shorn of legitimacy, and deserves to be swept away in an expansion that will neutralize this utterly political and dangerous majority.
The glee evident in Alito’s victory dance over the death of Roe makes it clear that he is completely willing to do the exact same thing to every other decision that is based in law similarly to Roe and that gives non-white males some measure of equality under the law. His call to 19th century understanding of the law is key here…he literally wants to take us back 150 years to a time when white men ruled the nation and no one else really had a say. It’s an obviously deranged way to look at the law, but it’s the only way he can try to justify taking away women’s bodily autonomy, and the upcoming decisions that will take away other rights.
