First-Come, First-Served Vaccine Sites Strain FL County Dealing With DeSantis Order | Talking Points Memo

If they believe in germs and vaccines and stuff, they probably aren’t real Republicans, anyways.

Sounds like it was Lee County that made the first come first serve decision not the Governor. And he’s absolutely right that those over 65 should get the vaccine before younger essential workers. The CDC estimated that giving the vaccine to essential workers first would lead to many more deaths. DeSantis is a loathsome character but he’s right on this one…

“We’re having to ride this bicycle as we build it,”

No, even worse. You are building the plane as you are flying it and you haven’t got the fucking wings on.

Why is every government official in Florida so damned incompetent? Maybe its the long term so called leadership at the top for the last 10 or more years.

Or maybe a metric shittonne of Floridians are just stupid-ass voters who elect very deeply stupid and unserious people into office.

It’s Florida. Of course they will.

Let’s be clear. Had the Trump administration and the CDC been at all competent, just as the vaccine makers were building their processes in parallel, the US Government and the states would have been working in concert in advance to build the delivery mechanisms. We all know that Trump and Company just left it to the states to design delivery just as they did everything else. If done right, we wouldn’t have to be making these age/essential worker decisions.

But if Trump admitted we had to build a delivery system, he would have been admitting we had a problem, and he might have to do something other than bitch and golf.

I am waiting for January 21 when the adults will be back in the room. We have been on our own for 2020. Maybe in 2021 we will feel like we are all pulling in the same direction.

“And it’s unfortunate that we didn’t have three weeks to plan this event.”

Someone should have thrown a shoe at him. They’ve known since March 2020 AT THE LATEST that they would need to have a vaccine distribution plan.

repub congress critters’ idiocy will be tested shortly.

The House voted on Monday evening to increase the size of individual stimulus checks to $2,000 from $600, endorsing a measure demanded by President Trump and daring Senate Republicans to either approve the heftier sum or defy the president, whose demands for bigger checks nearly scuttled the entire stimulus package.

The vote, which just reached the two-thirds majority needed to pass the House, came a day after Mr. Trump finally signed off on a $900 billion pandemic relief package he initially denounced as a “disgrace” and refused to sign, unexpectedly demanding that lawmakers more than triple the direct payments.

“The president of the United States has put this forth as something that he wants to see and part of his signing the legislation yesterday,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said. “I hope that view will be shared by the Republicans in the Senate, because we will pass this bill today.”

The power of incumbency is powerful, you could say it trumps sanity and self interest.

You may be right. My middle daughter and her husband lived in Jacksonville for way too long (now in DC) and comment about how awful it was to live and work in Florida.

I have some good Democratic friends who live in Florida who suffer with these fools. I commiserate as other than where I live in Austin, it is hard to deal with Texas politics. Fortunately, so many parts of Texas are still turning blue. Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston. We keep praying that Soon Yet Very Soon, we will displace these R’s.

Over 65, okay, you can make an argument for that. First come first served is completely idiotic for multiple reasons, most importantly that those most in need (such as my nonagenarian aunt) are the least likely to be first, as this is now a competition.

I’d been trying to remember who DeathSantis reminds me of, and it struck me. Didn’t he organize the first annual WKRP-Cincinatti Thanksgiving Turkey Drop?
