Former U.S. pardon attorney Liz Oyer, who was fired last month for refusing to comply with an order to restore Mel Gibson’s gun rights, spoke before congressional Democrats Monday on her recent termination and efforts by some in the DOJ and Trump’s administration to intimidate her out of showing up for that very testimony. Good that there is one more honest lawyer willing to stand up to abusive executive power. Would that more lawyers had the guts to do so.

Yes! More shadow hearings please. This is an effective use of Congressional Democrats time as it creates friction and friction generates coverage.

I would have gone with a word that rhymes with “clunt.”

I’m really curious: what is the upside for the administration of restoring the gun rights of an antisemitic felon? Why was it so important that they fired somebody? I get that it is corrupt, but what does the administration get out of this corruption? Did Gibson pay? Is this just about giving famous people things because they’re famous and like Trump? What’s the play here? Why would you waste vast amounts of political capital on Mel fucking Gibson?

I think Fascist is correct and bad enough that we don’t need gendered insults…

Mel is one of Trump’s personal ambassadors to Hollywood. Among other things, ambassadors are expected to negotiate on the behalf of the sovereign.

You can’t expect Mel to negotiate while unarmed.

At some point I expect an armed shootout between one or more divisions of the various police militias of the Federal government, most probably due to a misunderstanding (but may be not), because of amped up belligerent demands from the administration and that the demand the police militia act quasi-illegally.

Shadow hearings are a good idea. A shadow cabinet would also be a good idea, if Dems could pull that together, to speak with a more-or-less united voice on areas of policy, law and governance.

Although, after seeing the minimized coverage of Saturday’s marches, I’m not sure many media outlets are interested in publicizing anything that might piss off the fascists.

I was thinking “blunt”, a word I do not like to throw about casually. What word were you assuming, professor?

In this case, I am fine with any insult. She is that and a lot more.

Well the first word that came to mind for me was slunt, but that’s just me.

I am thinking ‘mental midget’, but that doesn’t rhyme.

I’m going with @madassyrian, slunt. It fills the bill.

ETA. And in my day ‘blunt’ was the short end of a fat J.
