On Saturday morning the co-hosts and panel of guests on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” were stunned by the number of volunteers who have signed up to help Vice President Kamala Harris win the presidency in November.

Kicking off the segment on Saturday, MSNBC’s Symone Sanders-Townsend pointed out to her co-host Michael Steele that the Harris campaign has signed up a whopping 170,000 volunteers and has scheduled over 2,300 events in battleground states.

“The Kamala Harris coalition is hosting 2300 events to motivate voters in key swing states, the campaign has more than 250 battleground offices to organize in the months ahead. And since Sunday, 170,000 new volunteers — these numbers are insane — have joined the campaign effort,” she reported.

The Rs have been fighting the overwhelming # of possible Dem voters for decades.
This has to put The Fear in them, bigly.

The Electoral College is the Rs main weapon. If we wanted to do anything other than squeaking out an EC win with Biden, we needed a huge enthusiasm boost and a wave of votes that could deliver some stunners where D gains were unlikely. Biden gave us this chance.

Along with Abortion and SCOTUS reform as main planks of the platform, I wonder if it would be wise to also bring up EC reform or - what is that initiative where the states agree to join an EC compact - to educate voters about how their elections keep getting stolen and we have to keep fighting battles where the minority ‘win’ elections when nobody wants them.

That is so despicable I don’t have the vocabulary for it.

Josh K makes a great observation:

I have a hard time believing that he would have reacted the same way that he did had he not spent years marinating in right-wing media.

These zombies range from Cesar Sayoc and Thomas Matthew Crooks (the latter radicalized by right-wing second amendment propaganda) on the powerless and violent side, to Bill Barr and Sam Alito on the powerful and so more establishment side. But they’re all well-marinated by years of basting in FOX News and the right-wing echo chamber – and now they are true believers of the most zealous and dangerous kind.

Trump is having a rally today in Minnesota where he has a problem with women. Will he boast about overturning Roe here?

“Mail-in voting is terrible,” he said

For heaven’s sake, Republicans, if you want Trump to win, don’t mail in your ballot !

Keep it as proof it wasn’t you who voted.

In two of its first volleys, the Harris campaign correctly labeled Trump a “78 year old criminal” and JD Vance a “Creep.” Looks like the campaign and me are on the same page as I suggested yesterday: “attack, attack, attack and then attack again.”

If she picks Scott for her VP (I’m still personally for pulling for Buttigieg), October and November thru election day, the campaign should buy 10 second spots in every commercial break on every station in every swing state with correlating 10-second pop-ups on all social media which simply ask:

“On November 5 who are you going to vote for: the prosecutor and the astronaut or the convict and the creep?”

Drilling that into a few million heads a few thousand times might not be a bad strategy.

Here’s the NYT reporter Michael Gold’s reading of Trump’s remarks:

At the end of his speech, Mr. Trump urged the religious crowd to vote in November, suggesting that if elected he would address their concerns sufficiently enough that they would no longer need to be politically active. Earlier, he had lamented that conservative Christians do not vote proportionately to their size, a complaint he has made repeatedly in recent weeks.

Which completely misses Trump’s implicit promise to make the government consistent with right-wing Christian values – permanently. With one side of his mouth he says: “what is Project 2025?” – and then, speaking to Christians, the other side of his mouth promises Project 2025.

Gold and the Times bury the lede is a way that invites the destruction of a Free Press.

What a white wash of what he actually said.

David Brooks played that card last night on Brooks s & Capehart. He said Harris’s biggest vulnerability is things she said in her brief 2020 campaign, completely ignoring things the criminal-in-chief actually did during his four years squatting in the oval office.
