Giselle Fetterman, the wife of Democratic Pennsylvania Senate nominee John Fetterman, said on Monday that her husband, who suffered a stroke last month, might not be back to campaigning until next month.
his wife is not a doctor. More telling are the doctor’s comments:
“If he does what I’ve told him, and I do believe that he is taking his recovery and his health very seriously this time, he should be able to campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem.”
Sounds like he fucked around and found out re medications/diet/exercise but should be able to turn it around if he gets religion ‘this time’.
The cardiologist says he’ll fully recover, but I’d rather hear from a doctor treating any stroke-related issues like speech impairment. One of Josh’s recent Edblogs had a worrying mention of Fetterman not recovering full use of speech yet, which is kind of important for campaigning. I don’t know how long that typically takes to recover. He’s relatively young, so I’m hoping for the best.
BTW, Fetterman just released a campaign ad on Fox News (heh). It was narrated by someone else, which isn’t encouraging, but he did say the required “I approved this message” tag at the end and sounded okay.
Not really. The guys recovering from a minor stroke and getting back on meds for dilated cardiomyopathy / atrial fibrillation. He’ll probably start making videos within weeks and be on the trail by mid to late July. BUT…he’s running in a race that’s all but done already. Oz will start running his mouth as if he’s speaking from expertise ( he’s not a cardiologist. He’s a lapsed cadio-thorcic surgeon ) suggesting Fetterman unfit for the job. Dick Cheney was in far worse shape…and he’s still scowling.
Fetterman vs Oz is an ideological contest. Sick or well in that vein Fetterman wins.
Irresponsible self-impressed idiot.
Do we really need another person who puts ambition ahead of everything else?
If you can’t take care of your health for your own benefit and for your family’s benefit, how do you expect voters to elect you to a stressful job – especially when the nation is in a crisis?
I expect Fetterman will take the high road, plugging himself as an authentic Pennsylvanian and friend of the working class (like that ad above) and let other Democrats do the knife cuts on Oz.
Sheesh, welcome to America, where taking time to take care of self is a violation of the Puritan Commandments that if you’re not working, you’re being lazy and laziness is a Sin.
Absolute shocker that someone would have a minor condition that seems manageable and keep working until they drop dead of a heart attack. Never happens in America, because everyone has that free government healthcare and a culture which emphasizes taking good preventative measures to stay fit and healthy.
Pennsylvanians know Fetterman, and Fetterman knows Pennsylvania. He won EVERY county in the state in the primary! He bested his next competitor by 415,000 votes! I’ll take that over Oz’s 900 votes over McCormick any day of the week.
In the mean time Fetterman has many extremely capable surrogates to hold down the fort until he fully recuperates. Our Senator Bob Casey is already campaigning for him. His competitor in the primary, Malcolm Kenyatta, is already campaigning for him.
Fetterman has DCM, a condition of the muscle the heart is made of causing the organ to be flabby and lacking proper tone. This can lead to altered conduction / and synchrony of the pacemaker in the heart. That will cause the atria ( hearts top chambers ) to flutter, pooling blood and causing it to eddy. That leads to clot formation. If the clot is in the left atria it will be ejected and may end up going to the brain.
That’s it. I’m sure Fetterman’s taking intropic agents for the DCM, anticoagulants to prevent clots and he has has a pacemaker placed. That is very common stuff. Nuff said about his heart. His stroke seems to fit the minor classification but no competent doctor is going to let that dictate caviler behavior.
Let’s not add energy to what is SURE to be Oz’s line of attack.
No guarantees, but generally speaking, only political fanatics (yes, us) pay any attention to upcoming Fall elections in July and August. So, if (yes, again, a big IF) Fetterman can kick off his campaign on Labor Day— and then campaign vigorously to November, his springtime medical odyssey can be incorporated - as a lesson - into his campaign and shouldn’t hurt his chances for election.
People keep make excuses for this total-shit-show of a candidate. Maybe too late at this point. Him dropping out and the Dems putting in Conor Lamb as a replacement (conceivably) would cause a revolt among the bros, so just more drama. Given he’s going against Oz he may win anyway, drool cup, wheelchair, and all.
This is silly. Really silly. We live in a country in which 2/3 of the population is overweight. He’s not the first young-ish person to think they can push past whatever is ailing them and keep on working in order to provide for their family. In fact, doing so is not only encouraged, it’s expected in this country. Many more Americans can relate to Fetterman having a minor stroke than can relate to some Turkish TV doctor who moved to a state because he wanted to be a senator.
He’s a hell of a good candidate. Won every last county in the state in the primary, won statewide office handily 4 years ago. Everything about him, except for the stroke, is compelling. He should destroy Oz, but the stroke is still bad.
