One of President Trump’s favorite targets is in the DOJ’s crosshairs.
Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., are probing whether former FBI Director James Comey leaked classified information about a Russian intelligence document to reporters, The New York Times reported Thursday citing unnamed people familiar with the investigation.
I detect a squirrel. We’re (again) at the throw-anything-you-have-at-the-media phase of the performance.
Anything coming from the Barr DoJ is immediately suspect.
However, I have little sympathy for Comey. His November Surprise of announcing a “reopening” of the Hillary Emails investigation is likely the single biggest reason we now have President Trump.
Can’t wait for them to get around to investigating donnie for leaking the identity of sensitive contacts in the Middle East to the russkie ambassador…

This probe was expected and it’ll probably (hedge alert) be a much ado about nothing.
It wasn’t enough to fire Comey and bring down a world of hurt on PP, they had to sic the Justice dogs on him. However, I still hate him for speaking about HRC’s emails 11 days before the elections. So, let the dogs outs.

This reeks of Trump, Barr, Giuliani and the criminal Trump administration.
Shithead has all the same enemies. Nothing new, just dragging dead horses all over the WH lawn.
This will go nowhere just as the HRC probes went nowhere. The same, however, cannot be said about the myriad probes into Shithead and his band of criminally-minded idiots.
It also reeks of retaliation.
I doubt it will be lost on many that that is just what it is.
Barr doing Trump’s bidding and how convenient that this investigation is leaked today, the first day of the Senate impeachment trial. I expect more of these distractions. I have no love for Comey but this stinks to high heaven.

Personally, I feel ambivalent about this. Mr. Comey seemed a decent fellow when serving GWB but he seemed to become a little too full of himself in 2016 during the campaign. That letter was the worst thing he could have done, imho, unless he was prepared to point out that the Trump campaign was also under investigation at the same time. All of that said, this investigation of him Mr. Barr’s DOJ just doesn’t pass the smell test. Seems more like a petty act of revenge to grovel to his boss in the Oval office.
Comey is another one of those Republicans a Democrat leaves in place to look “bipartisan” and “strong on crime”, right?
It’s not the “Feds”. It’s the loyal brownshirts under Barr in the J.D. This is a sort of Reichstag fire in a dumpster. Does Barr privately dress up like Herman Göring too, I wonder. Pink patent leather is it? People are asking.
edit: Not that there is anything wrong with that! Who doesn’t love a man in uniform? But really, Trump, who is a half German square headed palooka, looks a lot more like Göring. He is Putin’s own personal Göring. (With apologies to Depeche Mode).
Under other presidents - the DOJ was independent which is why frequently the upper echelons would not be changed in order to preserve institutional memory and cohesion. Law enforcement tends to skew conservative so it should be no surprise that most members of the DOJ are conservative and republican. Remember that the NY Times reported that the FBI was Trump Land prior to the election. That said, Comey violated protocol and regulations by having that press conference without the Attorney General of the United States Loretta Lynch involvement and knowledge. He could have gone to her about his concerns that it was going to leaked anyway. But the way he did it affected an election. Now Trump has run out of the department everyone that had any involvement in investigating his campaign. A purge similar to Putin’s running out everyone that was not personally loyal to him at the GRU.
Gotta give Hannity something to talk about when he can’t talk about what actually happened. (As if that ever happens.) There are only so many car chases he can cut to, after all.
It will take many years to repair the massive damage Trump henchmen Barr has done to the DOJ.
