The noose found hanging in Bubba Wallace’s garage stall at Talladega Superspeedway had been there since at least last October, federal authorities said Tuesday in announcing there will be no charges filed.
I guess this makes me feel kinda better that the noose placement wasn’t a direct response to the George Floyd / BLM protests, but it still makes me wonder why it was even there in the first place, no matter how long?
The lengths some people will go to make this all seem like there’s nothing to see here is mind-boggling. I don’t believe this shit for a minute. Why was he assigned that particular garage then? Was that just happenstance too?
It would be a bummer if there is a lynching opportunity that you miss because you don’t have a noose, so the owner always carries one around just in case, and then forgot this one.
How convenient. The story seems more like a circling of the wagons by the Feds and NASCAR. It was in Alabama for goodness sake. And there just happened to be a noose around since October because we all know NASCAR needs to have a noose around?
Well, it is Alabama so maybe you just find old nooses everywhere like you find arrowheads where Native Americans used to live. Archaeologists thousands of years from now are probably going to try and figure out the significance of nooses to the peoples of that area.
I feel better about it as well, but the fact that it was there speaks to the issues within NASCAR culture that Mr. Plucky err Bubba is trying to address and change. I am still gobsmacked by the fact that NASCAR has in the last week been so much better on race than the NFL which is like 70% black. It just goes to show the mindset of the owners in the NFL vs. those in NASCAR which appears to finally be returning to it’s roots.
This doesn’t even pass the “laugh” test. Growing up in the South, in Boy Scouts, I was taught you never tie a noose for ANY reason because it’s so dangerous. And we are to believe folks just let the thing literally “hang around” for months on end?
So how many of the other garages also had nooses hanging in them? Or are we expected to believe that by sheer coincidence the only black driver got assigned the only garage that had a noose hanging in it?
So, are we to believe that someone spotted the noose 7 months ago, and didn’t mention it? And that over all that time no one did anything about it–like calling the FBI, or just throwing it away? And they’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn they’d like to sell us.
I actually have no trouble believing this is true. For so long, NASCAR fan culture has been dripping with racist imagery, so it makes sense to me at least that the culture wasn’t just the fans and that nobody saw anything wrong with it until Bubba got that stall. Lots of white folks are waking the fuck up to a lot of racist behavior that they previously just ignored. Even a month ago, a lot of white people wouldn’t have thought twice about a noose or the racist connotations associated with it. Times are a’changin’.
