As the federal investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) reportedly continues, there’s been a related charge in Pensacola, Florida: a man who allegedly tried to turn the Gaetz investigation into a personal payday.
Gaetz has strenuously denied the allegations of involvement in sex trafficking.
Gaetz is smart enough to know when he’s really blown far, far past what a criminal can get away with. Gotta strenuously object.

I still think they’re going to get gaetzie (jr.) for dipping into his campaign fund, not for the underage sex thing. The now-woman isn’t co-operating, and they don’t need a corroborating witness for campaign fund violations. And I really doubt that guy could resist dipping into “free” money. “Every critter does it, right?”
But prosecutors now allege that Alford contacted Don Gaetz, telling him that a $25 million investment in securing the freedom of long-missing former FBI agent Robert Levinson would result in Matt Gaetz receiving a presidential pardon.

Yabbut, the alleged Mann Act violation took place when he flew a Florida girl out of state. Seriously, if he’d bopped florida girl in (just) florida, there would be no federal case.

For the record, Gaetz is not being investigated for trafficking the underage girl across state lines. He’s being investigated for ordering up the girl and paying for the sex via interstate commerce – i.e., Venmo and the Seeking Arrangements website.
This seems pretty tangential but, man, there is some serious murk involving the disappearance of Robert Levinson and what the hell this real estate clown had to do with it much less Don Gaetz no one seems to know including Gaetz fils whatever chaff he tosses into the public slipstream.

Which, again, is NOT extortion. It is a fraudulent attempt to bribe. “Pay me and your son gets a pardon” is a bribe, not extortion. The fact that he had no chance of making it happen just makes it a fraudulent one.
If he had the power himself to determine whether Gaetz was charged, THEN they could claim it was extortion, because he’d be saying “pay me off or your son gets charged” and it was within his control to do it.
