So, where will they ultimately serve their sentences?

Is Federal prison a step up from state prison?

Yes.

Text messages and other material introduced at trial showed the defendants using racial slurs, and witnesses recounted racist behavior from the men.

“These defendants saw Ahmaud as less than human, as less than an animal,” prosecutor Tara Lyons told the jury Monday.

In fact, that “step up from Georgia State Prisons” is why this charge went to trial. The originally negotiated plea deal had these guys serving their time in the Federal Prison System, rather than the Georgia Prison System.

The Judge might or might not sentence them to serving time in a Federal Prison. My personal hope is that he’ll schedule their Federal Sentences to be served after their state sentences.

The white race is not genetically superior.

Sorry.

The rejected plea deal was a disgrace to the DOJ. It was negotiated without the approval of the victim’s family. In view of the jury’s resounding guilty verdicts AG Garland should personally apologize to the Arbery family.

Does the verdict mean another 20 years can be piled on? Just asking and hoping…

These clowns recorded the murder. They told the cops that they suspected the victim of being a burgular. One of them was a former cop so they fully expected not to be charged. I don’t feel sorry for the defendants but it must be shocking to them to realize that murdering a black man they suspect of a minor crime on white peoples turf is no longer appropriate behavior. I mean what they had been taught by their whole southern lives was just wrong.

In state prison their “life” sentences will be cut short, but not in the way they’d want.

Wow, sucks to be racist, I guess…

They will want federal but let’s hope it is state.

If the State prison is more spartan - more utilitarian - and has little in the way of comfort and convenience… well then, by all means park them there.

but …If the desire to have them placed in the general population of the State Prison is because the day to day personal interaction in the general population is rough and violent and there is a very very high probability that all three of them will die by violence within the first 18 months of their incarceration … well that will be a problem - and if it is nearly a certainty based upon the institution’s past history with incarcerated former officers of the law who have killed a black man … then responsible thinking will dictate that other accommodations (not nicer - just “other”) be provided - Certainly do not want them coddled - but if it is abundantly clear that they will be immediate targets for prison cell / hallway / exercise yard vigilante justice - they will have to be placed in isolation…

They deserve to have several decades of very humble basic existence to ponder their callous and immoral behavior.

That was what was so astounding …they seemed have believed that that video would exonerate them

There is also the question of why they recorded it in the first place.

Yay! I’m so glad about this - it was so obvious.

So, given that they’ll be sentenced for federal crimes as well as their state crimes, what determines which system they serve their overlapping time in?
