The Federal Judges Association’s (FJA) board of directors will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday in the wake of President Donald Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr’s meddling in the criminal case of Trump’s former adviser, Roger Stone.
This would be a good time for the House to pull harder on some of the Barr-related threads that have turned up in prior investigations. Barr should get the sense that this storm won’t blow over any time soon.
I wonder whether they can issue orders in other cases to probe the widespread appearance of undue influence. Basically a “show cause why we shouldn’t believe that you’re lying”.
I’m still trying to understand why the ABA doesn’t disbar disBarr et al. It’s well understood by now that the Judicial Branch (read: lawyers) is only remaining bulwark against Toadglans’ complete dismantling and subjugation of the federal government. If nothing else it would “send a message” (not that the message would be received).
I guess some have suggested that 2000 Federal judges cannot be ignored. I think that ignoring 2000 Federal judges is the point.
The Republican party has neutered the Legislative branch, so now their war against our government shifts to disable the Judicial branch. And, attorneys and judges are sensing that they are in danger.
Two interesting questions, what can they do, and do they know they have to do what they can?
So, if this association involves all federal judges, is it possible they could get John Roberts to weigh in with a statement? Would he? It might actually make a difference if he said things have gone too far.
That’s not the way it works. Lawyers are admitted to the bars of the various jurisdictions (typically by state) where they practice, and it’s the ethics committee of those organizations that would have to take a complaint. So DC or New York State for most of them.
Has the House Judiciary Committee made Barr’s testimony (end of March) contingent on his providing all the Grand Jury materials that he refused to release when they subpoenaed them earlier? I mean, why bother giving him an opportunity and a platform to slimeball everyone, unless we actually get something actually useful out of it?
Yes, although I was also going through in my mind all the weird names Trump could place as interim AG: Pirro, Starr, Cipollone — a waking nightmare of malefactors with law degrees.
