Federal Judge Slaps Two Lawyers With Sanctions Over Big Lie Lawsuit | Talking Points Memo

A federal judge has sanctioned two lawyers who he said pursued “bad faith” litigation that falsely alleged widespread illegal behavior in the 2020 election, ordering the attorneys to pay the legal fees of several states, private companies and individuals targeted by the suit.

“He cited theories by other attorneys and Trump allies — such as, no kidding, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.”

Gary Fielder and Ernie Walker are the Lionel Hutz and Vinny Gambini of Sidney Powells and Lin Woods.

Good, but I won’t be really happy til Ghouliani is slapped.

Upside the head.

Repeatedly.

Unlikely. No clients were harmed, and the sanction of paying the other side’s attorneys’ fees is probably ample to deter such conduct in the future.

ETA: Although it appears that Fielder was and is already on probation with the state bar, so maybe.

Attorneys Gary D. Fielder and Ernest John Walker … “did not conduct a reasonable inquiry into whether the factual contentions had evidentiary support"

But it’s completely unreasonable to require reasonable inquiries into factual contentions! That way, they might find out stuff ain’t true, and what then?!?

Don’t you just hate it when you cheat off the paper of the class idiot and the teacher not only gives you an F because the answer is wrong but also insists on seeing your work?
The penalties imposed should put a hefty dent in their bank accounts, unless, of course, the Dump job decides to reward them for their diligent work on his behalf by shelling out some of the money he’s collected to challenge the election. They shouldn’t hold their breaths.

Edit: for those who didn’t get it, everything from the words ‘unless, of course,’ going forward is snark.

In normal times and conditions, but there are probably people willing to pay the fine for them because they are backing Trump. The depth of stupid people still willing to give Trump and his people money is astounding.

now if Trump stiffs these attorneys, that might be a different story.

Hey, Vinny Gambini at least had Mona Lisa Vito to assist him.

Trump was never their client. And they’re Losers anyway, so they’ll most likely be left to twist in the wind.

So, basically a 68-page finger-wag?

What real-world consequences will this cause for these two “lawyers?”

O my god I love this guy!! hahahahahaha

They have to pay the other side’s attorney fees, which will add up to at least tens of thousands of dollars, possibly 100k or more.

The judge should throw the book at them, literally and figuratively. The judge should also yank their law licences and fine the all legal fee attributable to the other side and then double it for being so frivolous.

I never knew that “cut and paste litigation” was such a thing. Smart lawyers might have recognized some of the pitfalls.
