At least this was a Trump judge.

Pete Hegseth moves to reduce the number of 4-star officers and general officers in the National Guard by 20% each

I am reasonably certain that Hegseth will prioritize getting rid of Admirals/Generals who he think would not order troops to fire on American citizens.

Off topic, but referencing JM’s most recent blog post on proposed film industry tariffs:

From last graph of linked WSJ article:

‘ Trump in January appointed actors Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as his “special ambassadors” to Hollywood. He said they would help bring back Hollywood business lost to foreign countries.

“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest,” he said.’

And also, restore Gibson’s gun rights….

Jesus. At least the fall of the Roman Empire had barbarians in really cool outfits with fur and broad swords, and the Romans had orgies with all that wine and pillars and such, while the soldiers still wore really nifty heavy duty leather cuirasses. We just get 30k watches and shabby tufts of orange hair . . . although we do appear to be getting plenty of pillaging. Barbarians too, but dressed in loafers and with expensive haircuts and makeup rooms . . .

As a parallel universe Roman version of Trump would have said, “Triste!”

Huh. Mel Gibson’s best work was in foreign films (Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously).

Ah, the historian says there is nothing historically like the on-going corruption of the Trump family. That statement almost certainly reflects US history only (sorry cannot read the link).

But that said, if we had a functional press I would hazard a guess that people might have noticed such an outlier.

Just saying.

Shouldn’t that be scratching away?

Why does the most powerful man in the world need “special ambassadors” to Hollywood? Will these three men be bringing back the Hay’s Code?

Very true, the corruption is extremely familiar to any observer of world history.
The other (relative) press failure I’ll never get over is how Trump’s sheer idiocy isn’t adequately addressed. Like, Dan Quayle was pilloried in the press for not being worthy of his position, and all he really did was a) be average, and b) mis-spell tomato.
Instead of clear statements, we get gems like “we asked these medical experts if it’s safe to inject bleach”. Whether it’s corruption, stupidity or maliciousness being embodied by the administration at any given moment, the press still seems decent at addressing minor transgressions, and wholly incapable of clear statements of the obvious. Trump just barrels through that gap every time.

Prime Minister Carney is going to visit Washington DC under the guise of discussing tariffs. I wonder whether statehood and a big beautiful handover of its rare earth, uranium, and gold reserves, is also on the cards.

Hegseth is an out of control, self-righteous alcoholic.

Or who might support a coup to remove a president who has abused his power and made himself a dictator.

Yep, and he’ll do more damage with his juvenile “I’m not the problem, YOU’RE the problem!” posturing before reality inevitably catches up and he gets canned.
