So the problems and complaints are pretty graphic and cruel and not acceptable. What is the next step? Where are the timelines to remedy the situation? Who is being held responsible with repercussions if the situation does not change? How about closing the whole thing down? I’m not the only one out there that finds this whole crappy administration and snail like justice system totally disgusting. Good grief, somebody DO something that moves the needle.

The well-being of detainees is always our first priority. Plus, we make the place horrible, with no beds, massive overcrowding, overflowing toilets, rotten food and little of it, and sadistic guards. They’re only getting what they deserve because they failed to deport themselves before being detained.”
Weird how they tell these whacking lies and then go on to admit they were lying.

Xi again mentioned the Thucydides Trap in his meeting with Trump. The term is shorthand for first one now will later be last. At that point, any self-respecting diplomat or politician should compare and contrast to argue that the rising-falling doesn’t really apply in the US-China case. Both China and the US face huge challenges. China has a shrinking population, and its debt problems are at least as bad as those of the US. Moreover, all-out war is an absurdity in the nuclear age. Rather the rise of corporations is a threat to both. Certainly, Trump could have pointed to the job the East India Company did on China, reversing the trade deficit in silver by illegally importing opium to China and overcoming China’s iron-handed foreign trade policies. Trump could have said, “Look, our Oligarchs are coming to dinner tonight. Combined with your Oligarchs, neither of us stands a chance. That’s the Thucydides Trap in our modern world. Maybe they take all our “silver”, physical and intangible assets, and absorb us into some sort of crypto-hypercompute infrastructure and steal everybody’s attention. So Xi, how do we plowshare the fucking AI guys?”
Plowsharing is a reference to Clinton’s moves in 1996 to get the Russian Federation to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), that explicitly banned all nuclear explosions, completely outlawing detonations for civilian engineering or “peaceful” purposes. American scientists in that period actually traveled to Russia and assisted in dismantling of existing nukes and the US came up with such programs as MOX (mixed-oxide fuel) conversion for blending weapons-grade plutonium with uranium oxide to allow it to be safely consumed in commercial nuclear reactors. Clearly we need a similar planetary deal on AI to reduce the risk of its abuse or its abuse of us.
Twice Xi has given Trump an opening by mentioning the Thucydides Trap. I don’t think like some commenters that this was meant as an insult. Rather it is a suggested opening to deeper cooperation for the benefit of both countries. Trump, the Eternal Idiot, failed yet again to even understand the reference, while gutting institutions to the point that he had nobody close to him to steer him back in a diplomatic direction. Ballroom!

For ICE agents the Constitution, our rights and the law do not exist. They shoot citizens as easily as anyone else. Show them your passport as proof of citizenship and they laugh as they rip it to shreds
