Will the FDA next be authorizing drugs/treatments based on a Very Stable Genius’ hunches?

Recommended by? And thoroughly tested by? I say head for the frickin’ hills. If the idiot in chief were to recommend a particular variety of carrot, I wouldn’t touch it. This is total desperation.

Isn’t there some drug the Japanese were using? Anyone know more about it?

The amount of time money and other resources wasted trying to keep this asshole happy is just insane. This is how civilizations die.

I hear that some cultures believe that sacrificing the king to the gods by ritual torture will appease them and make plagues go away…

Last week, an Arizona man died after consuming chloroquine phosphate in the form of a fish tank additive. His wife subsequently told NBC News that the couple had seen the President and others promote the product as “pretty much a cure.”

Well, what do you know – Trump finally found a cure that WAS worse than the disease!

All things considered, I’ll stick with chicken soup.

President Donald Trump announced March 19 in a White House news conference that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would make hydroxychloroquine available to treat patients “almost immediately.” Because the drug is approved for other uses, doctors may be able to prescribe it for “compassionate use,” which allows doctors to treat people with life-threatening diseases or conditions with experimental drugs when no other options are available. But the drug hasn’t been shown to work against the virus in trials of people.

… hydroxychloroquine prevented SARS-CoV-2 from easily infecting monkey cells in lab tests, researchers report March 18 in Cell Discovery .

I assume the monkey cells were tissue culture.

While I know that reputable Fuji Pharmaceuticals is partnering with this venture, the U.S. better be making our own. We have been fools allowing US drug companies to compound medicine in China, India and even Mexico, something that needs to stop immediately. The Chinese are not our friends and aren’t to be trusted. They even burned the Italians with some of the materiale they sent in aid.

It is a joint China-Japan effort with the clinical trials, such as they are, being done in China.

I agree with you. It’s not like there’s a whole arsenal of other drugs to choose from. And these do happen to be drugs that have been in used for decades – though I am aware that there may be some reaction specifically connected to use with this virus that we don’t know of. But still. These drugs may perhaps be better than nothing.
