The Food and Drug Administration approved the first ever over-the-counter birth control pill in the United States Thursday, a huge advancement in contraceptive accessibility amid an ever more restrictive abortion landscape.

Once again, the US lags behind European countries and elsewhere

Prepare for the red states to start banning those as well, or at least putting massive restrictions on access.

SCOTUS will have to overturn this FDA decision. It certainly violates the 1st Amendment rights of…well…someone, somewhere.

Without Paxton at the helm of the Texas AG’s office, perhaps this won’t get a fast-track lawsuit in Kacsmaryk’s Amarillo court.

This is a win, only 50 years in the making, but still.

Let’s just bask in this one for a moment.

The doctors that opposed Mifepristone will now come forward and complain about prescription decisions being taken away from them.

@kayinmd made an excellent point on another thread.

I would also like to know if these over-the-counter birth control pills will be covered by insurance.

All establishments selling over-the-counter birth control pills must have 8 foot high counters without steps or ladders.

Let’s face it, countries that embrace fascism never lead the world in anything but human misery and suffering.

If you really want to understand the hysteria behind female sexuality you really need to dig into the history of the Mann Act, and the founding of the FBI. It really is an eye-opener, led as usual by useless religious fanatics.

It violates the imagined right of fascist religious fanatics to control what women do with their bodies. This reaches all the way back to the passage of the Mann Act, one of the most violently fascist laws this country ever produced.

I doubt it. When antihistamines go from prescription to OTC, insurance doesn’t pay. I have heard of cases where they will IF you have a doctor prescribe it.

Insurance does not generally cover OTC medications. That being said, some people have flexible spending accounts which can be used. In addition, this is only one form of birth control pill.

Or the state could enact a law that women who buy BC over the counter must show legal ID, just like with some cold and allergy meds, when checking out.

Signing for cold and allergy medication is due to a federal anti meth law. Some states enacted versions before the feds.
