FBI Stages Courthouse Arrest of Wisconsin Judge

Originally published at: FBI Stages Courthouse Arrest of Wisconsin Judge

The federal government used brazen, heavy-handed tactics on Friday to arrest a Wisconsin state judge on obstruction charges related to an immigration case. Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan received the distinction of being arrested at her courthouse. She does not appear to have been given the opportunity to surrender to law enforcement. Instead, Trump…

The stupid bastards.

Prediction: this cosplaying jurist intimidation is not going to play well with Federal judges.

The FBI arresting nice-looking white ladies in Wisconsin in service of masked thugs who refuse to identify themselves or produce warrants when challenged? This only works in the twisted, febrile mind of Stephen Miller. To everyone else: ICE and CBP delenda est.

So the racists get to watch a half-Ugandan, half-Indian FBI arrest white people on TV.

Sweet.

This is stupid. Is she going to be hauled in front of a safe Trump judge?

Kask Petel just might kick off a civil war to suck up to Donald Trump.

Because the assault on dictators is threatening the foundation of America, especially the right of the President to be innocent of every crime he commits.

Adding the bigger point: as the Trump regime’s efforts get gummed up, the whole enterprise is transitioning to a fantasy world where everything is fine. 200 trade deals AND enormous tariff revenues, mass kidnappings and unanimous Supreme Court victories, university commissars, a Russia-Ukraine peace treaty, a sober, professional Secretary of Defense… So much of the Project 2025 and the like depends on a sense of inevitability, but each defeat will inspire more people to get off the sidelines. And the existing Trump “wins”, such as university capitulations or big law pro bono agreements, are informal and can be reversed if the other party works up the will to do so. Congressional Republicans will never develop a spine, but the rest of the country can and will overcome this.

arrested at her courthouse

But the Chief Executive shall not be disturbed at the White House or on the golf course, because he may have to do some really important stuff that no one else in the world can possibly do.

Call me an alarmist, but I find this alarming.

I look forward to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission when democracy is re-established.

Imagine half-ish of the nation actually supported being ruled over by The players on Celebrity Jeopardy, the SNL sketch. That’s pretty much how I’m seeing this cabal of cranks, idiots and crooks, with a Bond villain or two sprinkled in.

Why did Patel delete his post announcing the arrest? IANAL but I don’t see anything there that would damage the case, unless it was the claim that she created “increased danger to the public” and Patel knows that will be shot down if this reaches trial.

Yes, I know it’s unlikely she can be prosecuted, but just the fact that they pulled this stunt scares me.
ETA: Mass arrests. I overheard a total stranger make some comment to the effect that the “illegals” they’re arresting seem to be mainly Hispanics.

They’re going to need a lot more of this nonsense to distract from the lunacy at DOJ, DOD and HHS.

Everything they do is for show- pure propaganda. I can’t believe the ads with the director of homeland security are still on the air telling non documented people to self deport.

It will scare a lot of Republican-appointed judges, too. Alito, Thomas, Cannon, Kacsmaryk, and maybe a handful of other loons will look on this favorably, but nobody else.

“If only Thomas Jefferson had thrown Justice Marshall in a dungeon as God intended, President Trump wouldn’t be bogged down by the intolerable indignity of judicial review” - future Alito dissenting opinion

They have a playbook – but this isn’t 1942 Germany, and this isn’t going to work.

The backlash, not just across the Judicial Branch, but among the public, will be brutal.

This won’t end how Patel and the rest of the Fox-Echo-Chamber hostages think it will.

Hi,

I am NOT a Repumagazi. Full stop.

I do not support disappearing anyone. Full stop.

I do want to know - did the judge do this?

Did the judge aid and abet a person who could legally be arrested?

If the judge did what the charges say, it’s bad.

Please address any replies to the actual situation.

Did she / didn’t she

If so, how does she walk?

I’m all for civil disobedience. But, it sometimes comes with a cost.

Some discussion of this over on the Morning Memo thread.

It’s hard to imagine someone above Kash chiding him for what looks like a lapse in judgment. When I first read about this it sounded as though an investigation was still pending, and possibly when he sent his X message, it was still pending, and there’s a peril to getting out over the tips of your skis if you are in the business of taking people into custody, depriving them of their liberty and property etc.

Which judge signed the arrest warrant???

Hi - Per the parallel discussion at Morning Memo - there’s at least one affidavit that has some at the Hive persuaded that she did indeed act as alleged. My own preference is to wait until we get all the facts (per Gen. Turgidson) but that might be a while - the judge isn’t commenting, and I presume her attorney has recommended she say nothing.

I did see some speculation that the warrant for her arrest might have been administrative rather than the usual judicial and that could be a problem for the US, since the standard of proof is lower and it may not authorize criminal arrest.

ETA for thoroughness, here’s a link to the criminal complaint and the supporting affidavit - read the affidavit but keep in mind that this is the prosecution’s version of events.
