Fauci Warns Country ‘Going In Wrong Direction’ As COVID Rates Rise Among Unvaccinated | Talking Points Memo

White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sunday warned that the U.S. is “going in the wrong direction” with the highly contagious Delta variant spread prompting a surge in COVID-19 cases, especially amongst people who are unvaccinated.

Blockquote Right-wingers who have been espousing vaccination skepticism for months have notably changed their tune recently by advocating the public to get vaccinated as hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 continue to rise.

I think ‘espousing’ should be ‘denigrating.’

No. But I know what you meant.

Who do you suppose is behind this switcheroo? Isn’t there some kind of clearinghouse for RWNJ talking points? Or is it some man somewhere behind the curtain, a GOP Wizard of Oz?

This was foreseeable.

Usta be Frank Luntz, but he’s been singing a different tune since his brush with cancer.

This is just nuts. These unvaccinated loons are going to break our healthcare system such as it is.

Cults are going in the wrong direction too…

Yep, Republicans always seem to have better message discipline than Dems.

The UK has had a slight dip in cases to around 30k today. The US is 5x the size of the UK so that would be 150k in US terms. The UK has 70% vaxxed with 1 dose and about 55% vaxxed with 2 doses. We’re only at about 55% vaxxed with one dose and 49% fully vaxxed. The next 6 weeks are likely to be bad, especially for folks in red states and red counties, but I would not be surprised if we go back up to the 100k cases per day level. The smart thing for blue states to do is to mandate vaccines and get their unvaxxed pockets under control. Let Florida, Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee figure it out the hard way.

Jeez, now even Dr. Fauci is doing “bothsiderism”.

It’s not the “country” going in the wrong direction. It’s the moronic death cult anti-vaxxers.

It’s inexcusable that some of the most highly educated people in this country, people with incredible wealth, opportunity, and advantage, are purposely pushing their followers towards death through a malicious misreading of the scientific data. At this point, it’s undoubtedly malicious because they’ve been corrected numerous times by public health experts, and yet, not only persist in spreading misinformation but actively demagogue against those trying to save lives.

We’re a wealthy first world country, have the best vaccines in the world, and premier technology and scientific knowledge. It’s practically a crime against humanity for us to fall back into another wave of the pandemic.

It’s not a coincidence red states are at the leading end of the wave.

But here’s a good trend that will hopefully continue.

For Republicans it’s about political gain, but a lot of this misinformation is financially motivated. People are making money, lots of it, by downplaying Covid, trashing the vaccines, and pushing alternative cures. Like this asshole:

The only problem here is that the longer the virus rages in those states, the greater the likelihood of additional variants that may be vaccine resistant. They put all of us in peril. Calling them skeptics or hesitant is too soft on them. It is oppositional defiance - you can’t make me or you can’t tell me what to do, it’s a free country yada yada. Meanwhile, nothing can get fully back to normal unless there are incentives or sanctions such as what the NFL has imposed. Employers need to begin requiring vaccinations.

Hopefully, there will be a level of Hell for these people that even Dante didn’t foresee. Absolutely inexcusable.

We are also about one month away from a major population shift, as all the college students return to schools in person and move all about the country. Some universities are mandating vaccinations but many are not. So unless that changes (and hopefully this current scare and rising infection rates will spur more colleges to set mandates) then we’re going to see that even the currently highly vaccinated areas are not going to be that way for long. People are, unfortunately, mobile.

Here’s another article on the booming “disinformation for hire” industry. Where there’s money to be made, people will do despicable things like this, and Facebook needs to be slammed on the regulatory carpet for allowing it.

This is too small a number to make a real dent. If we were at Canada’s vaccination rate, we would be at 3M per day.
