Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, claimed on Tuesday morning that he and President Donald Trump are on the same page with regards to the COVID-19 outbreak.
So, if I’m understanding this correctly, I am suppose to blame Grandma and the Chinese for putting me in this situation. Being a white male is so tiring…
I’ll trust Fauci is willing to speak truth to power when he comes out and explicitly says ending social distancing, quarantines, remain in place, etc too soon is unwise and dangerous, and adds that 15 days of it was far too optimistic from the moment it was announced and it’ll have to go on much longer, whether Trump agrees with that or not.
There have been some positive noises on that score coming out of Washington this morning.
“[New White House chief of staff] Mark Meadows and I have already spoken to the president twice this morning,” treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin told reporters.
I think he’s keeping his powder dry for what’s important. So, in terms of telling the American people to keep social distancing, wash their hands, don’t take unproven remedies, he’s going to tell it as it is. He’s also a truth teller when it comes to lack of ventilators, PPE, other supplies, as well as testing capabilities.
But he has to assuage a massive ego just to be able to hold on to his job. I think he knows it’s more critical to Americans that he keep his job than it is for him personally.
