Fauci: ‘Inklings’ That Mitigation Works | Talking Points Memo

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a White House coronavirus task force member, offered a rare glimmer of hope amid surging confirmed coronavirus cases during an interview on CNN Tuesday morning.

Ok, but the inkling is only being facilitated in areas of the country that have honest, smart leadership at the state / local level. The criminal inaction of the red states, and the criminal indifference of the COVID-45 deniers, is going to get the US to well over 200,000 deaths.

Inking on land? Sure, where, but now this: What’s the Navy saying when a boat is going down-THERE ARE SAILORS IN THE WATER!

More than “inklings” California has bent the curve, especially the Bay Area with our early closure.

We are now no longer projected to see demand exceed icu and hospital capacity, and places like kaiser ( largest integrated single payer and biggest health care supplier in Northern California) is seeing admissions flatten. I.e. those coming into care equal those being discharged. :ghost:

Washington state (early leadership from Inslee, who I am usually not a fan of) just slightly trailing California, is similar.

The states that are going to get killed are red states, with governors who listened to trump and Fox News. Florida, despite having much later infections, and Texas, are both projected to have more deaths than California, and are going the wrong way. Same with Tennessee. I would expect Alabama and Arizona to lose get killed, as Mississippi now is.

Bottom line is outside of New York, where De Blasio really really screwed the pooch, and has blood on his hands, democratically led states (with a few notably exceptions like Ohio) did much better, avoided the worst outcomes created by following the trump death cult.

Please give Dr Fauci credit for trying when he is up against President McConnell and boy toy Trump.

"I don’t want to put too much stock on it because you don’t want to get overconfident, you just want to keep pushing in what you’re doing,” Fauci said, referring to mitigation efforts. “You’re starting to see that the daily increases are not in that steep incline, they’re starting to be able to possibly flatten out.”

The man lives dangerously. Trump won’t be pleased. There is no doubt that he will want to scream things are getting better. He will claim it is all because of him.

And the way this story is phrased, people in Red States will have a green light to use the success that prudent Blue State people obtained by hard work as a green light to still act like Beach Blanket Bingo.

Only thing missing is Annette and Frankie

You CANNOT announce anything that hints at progress in the earshot of a sociopath like Trump. If Trump had been in Stalin’s place, the Russians would have been conquered by the Germans in six months (maybe sooner)

Yeah, there is evidence of bending the curve in the greater NYC area, but this is a place that has been shutting down for some time and is even now at is ~10% of normal activity. NY has been driving the rise, but now it will be the second tier cities whose combined cases will soon dwarf NY…

Westchester at ~11,500 confirmed cases per 1M people (likely 7-8 times higher)…

Now zero degrees of separation to a known case, better half’s nephew in Queens picked it up, no severe symptoms that require medical intervention yet…

Day 18 of sheltering in place here…

2 trips out for supplies, 13th and 27th, 2 walks in woods… cabin fever is no fun…

Me and the missus now have matching masks…

He’s looking at the same data the rest of us are, and seeing the same tiny bends. Which are pretty much from unimaginably horrific to imaginably horrific.

Others in the country’s leadership are doing all the heavy lifting, Trump bogarts the truss and claims he’s the superman…

We all could have guessed that he’d attack and disparage Cuomo, Inslee, Whitmer and other Dem Governors while simultaneously taking credit for their crisis management successes.

Jeez he looks just like his mother.

Apparently they’ve talked trump into shelving his county by county risk rating idea.
