The radical right is threatening to vote the speaker out if he doesn’t use the leverage of a possible shutdown to try and force the democrats to make cuts to pay for the debt made by republicans. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need to pass a law that forces any party in power to balance the budget by cutting their own programs. Stop spending the money and making the debt on your watch while demanding the other party pay.
I’ll admit that I had to read that twice before I realized that it was saying that the Dems could be in control of Jonno’s future.
And having grok’ed it, I approve!
Clearly there’s one step missing, which is the one owned by the Republican Party folks. Now, if they could only figure out what it even means, maybe they could find the missing bit?
“We’re having thoughtful conversations about funding options and priorities.
Easy option. Secure a deal with Jeffries that they will save him from ouster if he follows through on the deal struck with the Senate and finally put a muzzle on the FreeDumb Caucus™ on his side of the aisle, which would entail shutting down the bullshit “impeachment inquiry”, their Hunter Biden jihad and MTGs fixation on photos of Hunter’s junk.
They are the know nothing party.
It’s worth a try I guess.
Hardliners want to see spending cuts far deeper
Less welfare for southern states?
Good idea.
ARRRGHHH!
That photo left me shaking…
Unlike the McCarthy debacle it seems that Johnson isn’t shy trying to come out the gate making deals with the Democrats and honestly this is how you hamstring the Freedom Caucus. I’m more inclined going along with him if he’s trying to do the right thing.
Surely not! I mean, if they were old-style Comintern party-line-following Communists, they’d be subservient to orders from Mosc- … uh …
…
Never mind.
I understand what you are saying, his definition of the right thing might be different than your.
Hardline Republicans … emerged from a meeting with the speaker Thursday confident he’d soon hand over his spine.
Hahaaa But seriously, this entire nation is being held hostage by the tedious shenanigans of these unserious and untethered chuckleheads. It’s almost as infuriating as treason. In fact, maybe I should make a rage Bingo card so I can at least turn this maddening point timeline into a game.
That girl ain’t right.
We cannot keep living as hostages to these assholes……they can either govern in the interest of the whole of the American people or they can keep up stunts like this. If they choose stunts may the voters have mercy on their souls
Maga Mike is facing the same problem that sank McCarthy. A speaker of the house is driven to use his or her power to keep the government going. To the broader body politic, a speaker who lacks the clout to keep the government from shutting down is going to disappoint a whole lot institutionalists who have made promises to their economic constituents. While wack job congress critters are underwritten by wack job billionaires who seemingly don’t need anything from the government, most of the congress is underwritten by rich people who very much want the government to function and to function all the time. Doing Trump’s bidding is a fools game for most of the Congressmen who want to have careers in 2025. The phones are lighting up from lobbyists who have promised CEOs and corporate committees thier pork is on the grill and will be served soon.
Look back over history at the careers of the nihilists who used shutting down the government as a political tool to gain some ephemeral favor with the voters. What happened to Newt Gingrich anyway?
Hardline Republicans, who are throwing a literal House floor temper tantrum over Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) deal with Democratic leadership, emerged from a meeting with the speaker Thursday confident he’d soon hand over his spine.
… … … … … …
Why do voters elect these hard right hijackers? What the hell is wrong with republicans making things work by talking to democrats? Do the two sides not at least talk to each other? I mean … these folks are supposed to act like grown ups.
The answer to your three questions are 1) pockets of middle aged and older nuts (many in the right wing media) who want to burn 'er down. 2) nothing except they are afraid. 3) Not much talking going on between the two parties since Newt Gingrich fucked the institution by eviserating chairmanships.
I think it has to do with where you put the quotation marks:
Do the “Right” thing…
Do the “Right Thing.”…
If you can’t see the difference, you are a Republican…
