Every criminal assumes he or she won’t be caught, sure. But there’s a series of assumptions that got these particular criminals to that point that I don’t entirely understand.

Brains melted by three decades of Limbaugh and Fox News. You get spoon-fed shit that you want to believe that badly for so long by bad-faith actors exploiting your self-selected gullibility on behalf of scam advertisers and that’s your entire worldview, you end up believing the stupidest shit imaginable. Also, she’s likely big into QAnon.

But we can’t shoot them. So unfair!

Whew. All I can say. You know, people who collect various types of knives often go a bit overboard, there being many types of knife for sale, and they tend to describe taking up the hobby as having entered “the rabbit hole” at a certain point. I look from that to this and I feel like telling them they have no idea what a rabbit hole really is.

That’s because, despite our differences, we are constitutionally (not the document, but our internal systems) unable to think as they do. Period.

One of Latham’s attorneys told CNN on Tuesday that his client, who had volunteered to serve as a fraudulent elector for Trump, “would not and has not knowingly been involved in any impropriety in any election.’”

He went on to say that his client, who was filmed accompanying ballot scanners and computer imaging specialists into the Coffee County elections office in January 2021, “did not authorize or participate in any ballot scanning efforts, computer imaging, or any similar activity in Coffee County in January 2021.”

Did lawyers always lie brazenly and provably through their teeth in public like this? I’m getting old, and I don’t remember it being like this. Am I casting a golden glow of innocence over my youth?

As they say in Scotland: ‘That lassie’s fanny is aboot tae take a bite oot her leg.’

There are always forks in the road where people of influence either have a say…or have an indirect influence…or through happenstance alter our paths.

I have a bunch to refer to.

All of us do.

In my experience, training classes in digital forensics, or pretty much anything else related to cybersecurity for that matter, always reinforce the principle that you must get explicit written permission before screwing around with computer systems that are not your own.

Because they don’t see top operatives going to prison and they think they’re above the rules that little people have to follow. All these mid-level criminals must know of some deep dark Federalist slush fund that will take care of their legal bills.

Trump folks, like Trump, just have a different way of doing things.
It is not wrong just Trumpish.

Whenever I see such specificity I assume they are semantically skirting what their client DID in fact do. Nooo, I didn’t authorize or participate in any robbery, I just drove these masked gentlemen with guns and big duffels to the bank and let 'em into the vault, had no idea they’d take stacks of cash–hey, I’m as shocked as you are!

A French circus performer. After ‘poet and student of life’ or ‘rodeo clown’ I can’t think of a worse CV for the marriage market.
