The last time President Donald Trump lost an election, he fought back with a wild series of baseless legal challenges and protests that culminated in an assault on the U.S. Capitol. Since then, he has openly talked about his desire to cancel the upcoming midterms including declaring that “we shouldn’t even have an election.” And,…

Thank you for this article. I thank all those working to defend elections. The Brennan Center is an excellent resource. This is a link to just one of their many tabs on their website. The writing is very good. They love America.

Oh yeah… And obligatory cat:

thanks for this timely article. But don’t “mail in your ballot.” Do you really trust Trump’s Post Office to make sure your vote arrives on time? take it to a drop box instead.

In America you have to war game potential threats to a free and fair election from the President.

This is how low la Mancha de Meirda Naranja* has taken us. Nothing would suit him better than spending the rest of his execrable life his own personal Spandau.

This team had better be collecting evidence of every crime, because if we just “move on” and refuse to send anyone working to overthrow the government, from Vought to Trump in prison for the rest of their fucking lives, then they may as well just stop wasting their fucking time. What would be the point of protecting one election but let the fascists go free and give them the time to get it right next time. We either put these motherfuckers in prison, or we face the very real possibility of ending our lives in a Christo-fascist theocracy. You think I’m overdoing it? In the 17th century hundreds of thousands of people began life as freeman and died as slaves. Yes, it happens that quickly. Wake the fuck up.

Excellent article and it’s encouraging to learn that there are responsible pro-democracy groups gaming out all the possible nightmare scenarios.

O/T (or not): King Charles has fine instincts and some fine speech writers. His speech to the U.S. Congress was a master class in critiquing the President, but the current occupant won’t “get it.” He will probably become enraged when/if someone explains it to him (he couldn’t even read his prepared remarks at the arrival of King Charles and Queen Camilla).

I was talking to someone on this team a couple of weeks ago, and he said he thought the magic number for Democrats was between 15-25, which is to say that’s the kind of majority he believes would be Trump-proof. If the majority is more like 5 or 6, he thinks the Rs can use a variety of tactics to tie those elections up in legal bullshit or in refusal to seat the winners, if not indefinitely at least for a significant amount of time. So it needs to be a real wave…

" Crashing Out: Is Trump Torching the GOP?

Nope. Zombie Fourth Estate won’t let it happen, will bust out the hose trucks. The end of Trump’s presence/life and the MAGAt KKKult’s loss of its KKKult leader will be 100% billed as a return to normal despite what’s left being nothing but a morally bankrupt, intellectually bereft, ideologically stunted, culture war movement THAT STILL WANTS the same KKKristofascist rigged anti-democratic minority rule ethno-theocratic apartheid promised by Trump…but will now want it even more rabidly after feeling so sure it was nascent but slipped through their fingers. They’ve been “robbed again.”

The past decade+ has been ENCOURAGEMENT…“if we can get that close it means we can succeed, and look at all we gained despite the overarching failure”…and the oligarchy that benefits from fomenting it as the distraction that allows them to shore up their plutocracy in the background will act to simultaneously exacerbate and normalize all of the underpinnings because it has worked so damn well for them so far. “Return to normal” narratives. Bank on it.

You mean like we did with the 2016 election? The things they’re doing now hearken back to what didn’t work the first time. There can’t be a next time, but trust the Dems to just ignore it all.

California allows you to determine if your vote was received and counted. Another reason to vote early so you can vote provisionally if your ballot was not received.

Throw out every AIPAC democrat, they’re all foreign agents anyway. Then toss out the corporate democrats who are owned by the health insurance and pharma industries. Then we toss out all the pedophiles. That should leave us with about 6 elected officials. We need to start over anyway.

Here’s the problem with that, and you cited it in your previous post:

If there’s no money to prosecute a campaign, the candidate cannot win. The voters need to hear from a candidate, but campaigns are expensive and those corporate and AIPAC candidates are the only ones with the money.

Citizens United isn’t going anywhere any time soon, so how do we get corporate-unaffiliated candidates on a ballot and get their message out there?

We just did it in NJ11. And the last thing you can do is listen to the talking haircuts yapping about how Mejia won. They’re 100% wrong, and they’re doing it to hide how Mejia actually won. Their first lie is that the AIPAC attacks against Malinowski allowed her to win, which just exposes their bias that a well-connected white male Democrat is always the default candidate. But the original field of 11 candidates just showed how much people were aching for something different. Naturally the C-students in the media just snickered and never once noticed what was really going on. Finally, Mejia’s ground game was incredible. I got a dozen different pieces of mail, 3 door hangers (which meant they had hundreds of volunteers), half a dozen phone calls, countless texts. So when the media derides her win as poor strategy on the part of AIPAC, just fuck them. Mejia earned every fucking vote, but the media cannot say that - their bias is disgusting. That’s how you win. You decide you’re going to, and you get people fired up. Then, we rewrite the rules to make it fair from now on.
