I’m still not getting why this is such a bugaboo for Republicans. A census has been around for a 1000s of years. I mean it is in the Bible. It’s just data.

They will make the numbers whatever they want them to be. And there will be no way to prove or disprove anything.

In business school we learned that you can’t manage what you don’t measure. ‘Eliminating’ measurements of diversity, equity and inclusion makes the status quo invisible, never mind supporting action to improve it or observing its destruction.

A late July update to the charter for DSEP makes the Bureau’s deputy director for data, policy, and science — a newly created, politically appointed position — a co-chair for the agency.
I laughed at this. Adding the word Science is just trying to put credibility to a position that has none.

The MAGA party wants to rig the census to help them politically. It’s not on the merits. It’s apiece with the politicalization of the entire government to destroy democracy and also allow the federal government to financially discriminate against states they don’t like.

This is all part of the SCOTUS decision to kill independent agencies. It’s just more fruit from that poisonous tree. There is no way for any nonpartisan, non-hack department to exist in the current setup. The Roberts Court has turned the US into a 3rd-world corrupt shithole. It will only be a matter of time.
