Ex-Impeachment Manager Rips GOP For Playing ‘Whac-a-Mole’ On Jan. 6 Commission | Talking Points Memo

This investigation demands the sitting VP, the Minority Leader of the House, and the President at the time of the insurrection testify. At minimum. If it happens, highly unusual in our political system.

Ms Cheney, paging Ms Liz Cheney.

It seems to me if the Speaker appoints Republicans like Cheney, Kinzinger, and others who voted for impeachment to the committee, it would be hard for the more establishment type Republicans to claim “partisan investigation”. In fact, they would more likely direct fire at each other than at Democrats. And the media would be forced into a “Republicans in disarray” coverage.

Speaking of Liz, shouldn’t she be known by her married name, Perry?

I guess she’s not a true conservative.

Please. They’d be writing articles about how weak Pelosi’s investigation is that she has to rely on never-trumper Republicans…

Any Republican who voted against the January 6th commission and shows up at a Memorial Day event is a complete hypocrite. How can you honor those who died for our democracy when you won’t even defend it with a vote?!?

She could hyphenate - Cheney-Perry.

I was thinking she didn’t want to get confused with Katy.

Ha, ha, Barbara Comstock. She’s a bog-standard Republican whose voting record was 97% for Trump. She used to tout the support she got from Trump, but in 2018 her district (VA-10) was trending very strongly blue, and she became Susie Collins-concerned about Trump, in an effort to try to cover her ass. It didn’t work. She lost to Jennifer Wexton (D-VA).

Yes, since then she has been critical of Trump, but that’s because she got kicked out because of him. She had nothing to lose by being anti-Trump, and a good reason for resentment of him.

There’s no confusing Liz with Katy. Just no confusing, LOL!!!

I would have thought that too, but we already have people like Chuck Todd tearing his hair out at Republican intransigence and treasonous behavior. Besides, I think the information the commission uncovers will overwhelm any Republican defense. They have good reason to fear any investigation of their actions.

I have such a woefully, laughably naive question that I might just be judged insane:

Isn’t the investigation of the events of January 6th, and the events leading up to them, such an important and inherently sprawling investigation, requiring so many areas of expertise, and requiring so much collecting and sifting through and analyzing of forensic evidence, that this is a task best left to our counter-terrorism agencies, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the FBI?

This work has to be shielded to at least some extent from political influence, both to conduct a serious investigation and for the results of the investigation to be accepted by the public and both political parties.

It cannot be rushed, and it really must not be warped by disinformation, intimidation, diversion and distraction.

We just barely survived both a pandemic that was exacerbated by incompetence and malevolence, and a lawless presidency led by Donald Trump and supported by the GOP and abetted by Russia and China.

Aren’t we at risk of dying as a country if we don’t take basic steps to ensure our intellectual and moral health? This is a national security challenge of the utmost importance.

Only, of course, if the media actually REPORT the information and don’t bias it with their BS. I’d like to see, just once, a time when they would report the news and not try to make the news.

And that’s kind of the GQP’s argument - rather than make it political, take it through the judicial system and then, if members of Congress are implicated, take the appropriate action.

Trouble is, would that all take place sometime before the end of this decade?
