Ex-Bush Aides React To Impeachment Inquiry

More Republicans coming out to say that Trump has done bad things, more Republicans who won’t go all in with what is obviously bad behavior and call for a full investigation in detail of the bad acts. The only Republican who has said that it was necessary to investigate Trump and get to the bottom of things is now an independent, or one of the ones trying to generate noise to becomes the Republican candidate in 2020. None of the rest seem brave enough to call out things they have called out before, when Democrats did them or they wanted to imply the Democrats might do them…it’s a bunch of craven hypocrites.

And sad…the nation needs leadership from the right to point out that Trump is acting unAmerican and demand accountability, because supposedly that was their party platform. Instead, we finally can see clearly that they only want power, and hitching to someone who espouses anti-American rhetoric is just fine as long as they get power. I really, really hope that Americans can see this clearly, and aren’t fooled by the mealy mouthed attempts to have it both ways.

And I’m sure there are good people, too. /s

Neither Andrew Card nor Colin Powell have much moral authority here to motivate Republicans to adhere to morality, truth, and patriotism. Both were lying weasels in the major decision of their day…the Cheney/Bush Iraq War. Please remember how they went along to go along so they would retain friends, future cushy jobs, and bowling league invitations. Cowards both.

I guess it’s like pornography – Republicans know it when they see it.

Starting to question your party’s deal with the devil, Andy? Last I heard, he’s not in the business of forgiveness.

Recep-rolls are so much less fun than Rick Rolls. Also, Rick is never gonna give you up… Trump? Not so much.

These old school Repubs keep popping up, giving currently serving members some cover to latch on.

Sort of… “How about now guys?, ready to dispatch trump now?”

May be more takers after their primaries?

Trump is a murderous POS, as is every GOP member who ever supported him. The only reason he thought he could get away with this is because of their constant fluffing and ego-stroking of this tyrant.

I hope they all burn for this.

Yes! And yet, it still feels like the Republican Party of today has left Card and Powell behind. They were powerful White House officials merely about a dozen years ago, yet it feels like a whole generation has passed since then.

I think I’m aging in dog years during this Administration’s time in power.

This guy was a tRump apologist almost to the very end. Almost. Even awful Andy Card couldn’t hold his nose at the stench coming off this White House with tRump in charge. Oh well, I still can’t stand the guy. Card is despicable in every other sense. He was behind some of Bush Jr’s worst impulses as well so no props from me.

I do think that an impeachment inquiry is warranted. Clearly, lines have been crossed.

I’ll take it.

For public opinion to really turn around on impeachment, we’ll need to see famous conservatives with bona fides give us their blessing, and we can’t afford to picky.

We will definitely need some conservatives to be a lot more enthusiastic than this, though. I have seen some on Twitter (names escape me).

Bingo.

Any Bush admin official has exactly 0 credibility.

“We don’t know yet, because most people in Congress have already made up their mind when they haven’t seen any evidence,” Card said.

Too bad he didn’t make the same argument in the run up to the Iraq war.

Is James Baker III still alive? If so, he’s probably the biggest GOP eminence gris still kicking, so if he comes down in favor of impeachment, it should carry a lot of weight with the rest of them. But now with the semi-grises already speaking out, you’ve got to believe that the end isn’t that far off. I get what they’re doing. It’s less about “doing the right thing” than about seeing an opening to take him down and take back their party. I’ll take that if it does the trick. He needs to go.

As I just wrote, it’s not about doing the right thing, but rather about saving the GOP from Trump. This is how the GOP does an intervention.
