OT: Patagonia with the FU to Mitch. What a company!
“Not only the how but the why”
…and especially the who.
I often forget the list.
Just for the record: Governors can appoint interim senators but they cannot appoint anyone to the House, where members can only be elected.
The infotainment outlet of record is on it.
It it is critical that this is done ASAP. If the GOPers regain the House majority in 2022, it will never get done, and the GOPers will turn up the gas lights and pretend the insurrection never happened.
The only “Jan. 6 Commission” we need is of the grand jury variety.
Welp…in the meantime, there is some good news.
Nancy Pelosi is the best Speaker ever. Look at her accomplishments. They speak for themselves. Dianne is another case altogether. She is starting to lose it.
Let the MAGAts make their dumb case in a dissenting report. Uncovering the facts and exposing them to daylight are more important than anything the bad-faith mothefuckers have to say.
That’s a really great idea. It wouldn’t matter if the GOP was fully on board with an investigation, they’d still try to steer the investigation away from their party and organizations they want to protect. Even someone like Rep. Kinzinger can’t really be trusted to do the right thing. The DOJ needs to do it.
Or they could appoint more old-school Republicans who, while being potentially more willing to pin the attack on Trump, would likely lack credibility with the GOP base, much of which is still loyal to the former President.
It wouldn’t matter who they appoint because the base will outright reject any conclusions that blame their cult. I don’t know how many times over the last several years that some Republican hero has drawn Trump’s ire and became a pariah among Republicans. Whether it’s Jeff Sessions or Bill Barr, they eventually turn on even the most diehard Republicans who dare to cross Trump. That’s why we have to move on from these idiots and focus on those who are reachable. Trumpists aren’t.
Fantastic. My good friend’s parents were absolutely diehard Trump supporters. It got to the point that she would just avoid her parents because they bought into the whole Q conspiracy. It was so bad that she blocked her mom from sending her emails. And then the insurrection occurred. They were livid and mortified. They’ve already changed their party identification to Independent and after years of refusing to meet him, they finally met their granddaughter’s Black boyfriend. They had become so outlandishly racist over the last several years that they pretty much disowned their own granddaughter because she was dating a Black kid. These people have done a 180 and I can’t imagine they’re alone.
Yes, appoint a Special Counsel like Robert Mueller who can prosecute and issue a report. Special Counsel John Durham is still conducting his BS investigation. Why can’t we get one for something as important as the Jan 6th insurrection?
WWRD (What would Republicans do)? If the Bernsters and AOC faithful had violently attacked America’s seat of government to take it over undemocratically, but failed, what would Republicans in power do? It would be scorched earth. Do that.
ETA: I say this to suggest we pull out all the stops. But all of it should be done by legal processes. Just don’t pause for a second because of Republican resistance.
I’m thinking create a specific FBI / national security law enforcement task force that would have the sole purpose of going after every single last one of the people involved.
Has someone else already noted that the problem with a bi-partisan commission would be that half that commission would be folks who encouraged, planned, and participated in the attack?
Meh. Don’t you recall when we invited Saudi Arabia and Al Qaeda to contribute half of the 9/11 Commission members?
Hmmmmm, I seem to remember Josh coming out fully against such a commish.
Basically calling it undoable.
Cue footage of Gohmert banging on a desk and disrupting a hearing.
I think it is also necessary to tie to this to deliberate foreign manipulation of the public through disinformation campaigns and, possibly, financing.
Yeah, I know, “Rusher, Rusher Rusher…” is a sure sign of Drumpf derangement syndrome.
