The White House and House Democrats both made moves Tuesday to get aid to Ukraine, a burning priority for Democrats that Republicans are blocking in the House.
…not to mention Ken Buck (R-CO)'s accelerating his departure from Congress (was set to retire at end or term, now leaving March 22) which further narrows the R majority and may also complicate Boebert’s carpetbag bid for his district, given that the special election must be held within 10 days of the June 25 R primary, if not concurrently.
It would have that and more in the package the Senate passed back in February with bipartisan support. But Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has ducked calls to bring the package up for a floor vote; at least one member of his conference has threatened to trigger a motion to vacate if he does.
Why is no Republican threatening Johnson if he does not bring the bill to the floor?
By allowing the Putin GOP caucus, which I believe includes Johnson, to control the Speakership by threatening to vacate the chair if he does, without a corresponding threat from the not Putin GOP caucus to make a motion to vacate the chair if he Johnson does not, not only gives the GOP Putin caucus control of the House, but it makes all members of the majority members of the Putin caucus.
That is you can claim to want to aid Ukraine, but if you have the power, as every Republican does under the current rules, to get aid to Ukraine but for Party loyalty do not use that power, you are lying about supporting Ukraine and are as much Putin puppets as those who are opposing aid to Ukraine.
At this point can a Democrat suggest to Johnson a motion to vacate if he doesn’t bring it up for a vote? We can always ride to the rescue on a white horse and vote to save him if he votes our way.
His Washington DC number: 202-225-2777.
Don’t forget to call your representatives (look up here: https://www.house.gov/) and let them know this option should be on the table - we can’t wait for 2025 to win back the House - Ukraine needs us now.
I think he’s just objecting to the GOP version, the existence of which will no doubt also make it hard for any GOP members to vote for the Dem version.
Brian Fitzpatrick has been talking a good game for months about getting urgently needed aid to Ukraine, and now is his chance to get it done quickly … but instead he is now advocating sending the issue back to the Senate, which will significantly delay any final action.
Translation: “I might do something about the pile of shit on the country’s front porch just as soon as I and my party stop shitting on the country’s front porch. Oh wait—shitting on the country is all we do!”
Play fewer hands and play them aggressively is a good poker tip. I love the fact that Joe pulled a fast one on the Putineers. I am even happier that the money goes to help Ukraine. Many members of my family were killed in the Russian pogroms in Belorussia. I have no love for the Russians. This feels like an eternal battle against evil.
The Ukrainians need ammo…
shells bombs and bullets … lots of each.
They got plenty of targets,
What they really need is for republicans to understand something. Are we a Russian state or is this America? Are we now surrender specialists meaning America kissing Putin’s ass?
POTUS Biden beat Trump to the Dem. nomination today ! It makes a difference if your party is truly behind you rather than split between MAGAt’s and Never Trumpers.
A sign of things to come. Congratulations President Biden !
