Even Trump’s CDC Director Thinks Masks Might Be More Effective Than POTUS-Rushed Vaccine

CDC director Robert Redfield reiterated the importance of mask-wearing during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, just as the Trump administration released detailed plans for the nationwide distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine in the coming months just in time for the November presidential election.

I would think so, given that a Trump/POTUS-rushed vaccine would most likely be poorly tested and very possibly lethal, almost anything would be superior.

They just keep trying–or rather, the more rational Presidential advisers keep trying–to shut the door after the horse has left the barn. We’re not going to get out of this until and unless there is a safe, properly vetted vaccine sometime in 2021…

I guess some of Trump’s hand-picked minions see where the election is heading, and are starting to be unafraid of the boss.

It’s not an either/or choice, for Christ’s sake.

How in the hell did this guy ever get a job from Donnie? He’s the one person in the administration who has told the truth even one time.

While speaking at a Senate hearing on Wednesday, Redfield urged the public to practice mask-wearing as he noted that an eventual COVID-19 vaccine isn’t guaranteed to have 100% efficacy — more like an immunogenicity of 70%…

Every interview I’ve heard from doctors versed in vaccine development has them attesting they would expect the efficacy of a “rushed” vaccine to be around the 40%>50% range. And none of them express confidence in one developed in 6 months.

Basically Redfield to Trump …

“IN YOUR FACE BOSS”

Redfield urged the public to practice mask-wearing

as he noted that an eventual COVID-19 vaccine isn’t guaranteed to have 100% efficacy

— more like an immunogenicity of 70%

— and that wearing face coverings has more of a guarantee to reduce the spread of COVID-19 than getting vaccinated.

Latest Quinnipiac poll of Maine has Biden up 36 points (66-30) over Trump among senior voters. Clinton won them by 17 in 2016. Seniors, whom Trump won nationally by just 8, are going to be the real demographic that determines 2020

I think Redfield is right. Public mask wearing is going to be the new normal for at least another year, even after we start vaccinating people. That doesn’t mean we can’t revive the economy but the economy will feature social distancing and masks going forward.

You see? As soon as Caputo is placed on leave, these liars are running their mouths and making shit up and making Dear Leader look bad. No wonder those traitors drove poor Caputo crazy.

How is Trump doing with Seniors in Florida. I understand Biden is up a lot with seniors.

Redfield is off the reservation. Number 2 is actually dangerous.

Two wows from Redfield at the CDC hearing 1. He thinks universal mask use would bring us back to normal before a vaccine. 2. He confirmed CDC funds are being moved to DC to run a messaging campaign they will have no input on.

If it’s the same as Maine Florida will be a Biden win.

It would be remarkable if any of the current COVID vaccine candidates achieves 70% protective efficacy. More like 50%. The current flu vaccines only average 40% - 60% so while 70% would be ideal, it is not likely. Moreover, the FDA has indicated that it will consider 50% good enough for approval. That said, no vaccine will make mask wearing unnecessary until there is broad scale use and a break in community transmission. Vaccines are more helpful in protecting communities, not individuals. Think of it this way, even if you take a cholera vaccine, you should not go around drinking raw sewage. So, wear your mask.

Trump’s base is growing increasingly resistant to mask wearing. They flout local and state mandates, agitate for violence in confrontations with business owners. They’re even going so far as to bull rush businesses in large, organized numbers and daring owners and patrons to do anything about it. It’s a movement that will increase in size, not dwindle away.

Good for Redfield.

But, … Vaccine by election day … Big 10 Football by election day … Sedition agents ready before election day …

What will we use for a deadline to get things done after election day? Maybe 01/20/2021? Do as much damage as possible before getting thrown out?

I think Redfield, along with Azar, is running scared. They’ve both sold their souls to Trump and yet they are sentient enough to have voices in their heads that whisper to them of what could have been, and should be. And they both know that when the time comes to answer for the wreck of the agencies they were supposed to manage and maintain for the public good, they will go down in disgrace.

@steviedee111 Is it really true we can’t just shoot these people? It just doesn’t seem right.

Here’s nationwide from last week.

And here they note that seniors make up 25% of the voters in the key swing states – and they mean all of them, not just Florida.
