SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Deadly wildfires in heavily populated northwest Oregon were growing, with hundreds of thousands of people told to flee encroaching flames while residents to the south tearfully assessed their losses.
Good Lord!
The Pacific Northwest fires fueled unsubstantiated social media posts blaming coordinated groups of arsonists from both the far left and far right for setting the blazes. Officials turned to Facebook to squash the competing narratives.
If it wasn’t for Facebook how would we keep up on the latest conspiracy?
Horrible, horrible… 
This is going to become the new normal for all of us out west…dry spells are more intense, and storms are also more intense but may not drop rain on the ground. Between the two, that means more chance of a fire starting, and when it does more change that it will spread and burn more area.
And, in CA, fire season usually lasts through October…we’re seeing orange skies in the LA area for another day, with the Bobcat fire expected to last another month and who knows what fires starting up next. It’s just a bad fire season all around, and the worst in most years is usually still to come.
I’m in Portland, and so far, we are fortunate, with only really bad, hazardous-level smoke being the problem. However, two major fires are close to the outer southeast suburbs. Other parts of the state are suffering badly. I’ve lived here for close to 50 years, and the fires, which are part of life in Oregon, have never been this bad. It’s awful for many people.
Facebook is a honey pot for the unobservant.
The wife and I are doing our periodic account updates. Passwords galore of course. So many accounts permit using a Face Book or Google account log in. It would be nice, but the price is too high, particularly with Face Book.
Is 2020 over yet??

For those of you not from the PNW, the fire near Salem is on the “wet” side of the Cascades. In general, the region from Southern BC to Eugene has had below normal rainfall and above normal temperatures. I think they back burned a couple of these fires so that they didn’t move east where things are really dry. They are predicting rain in the Seattle area by Tuesday.
Just Rec’d text from daughter in law reporting a couple fleeing fire, their truck burned, the man and woman found in the river, he with 15% burns over his body, she, pregnant, 40% burns, their toddler dead. This is not a reality TV show.
The air quality here (Lake Oswego in NW Clackamas County) is at 324 .
Good news is that we have low temperatures, humidity is rising and the winds are 1Mph.
That lessens the danger for me but not for the thousands to the south and west of me. I have to stay indoors even though I have the right combination of masks with HEPA cutouts in them.
