Engel: Pompeo Hasn’t Been Cooperating With Impeachment Inquiry

Barr, Pompeo, Giuliani and some others in Trump’s circle have passed the point of no return. They all must fear for their futures and livelihoods if Trump is booted out. After what we’ve all seen and heard, I think it would be political suicide for Democratic leaders to do a “bygones” like they did with the Bushies. The base would go apeshit. I know I would. I’m pretty sure Pelosi knows it too. I believe Nancy Pelosi when she says that she wants to see Trump in jail. She wants them to imagine the future. She wants them to make critical errors because of their fear of the future. It also makes these felons dangerous. They will stop at nothing to keep from being indicted.

Important correction here: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hasn’t been cooperating with “the House” (not just Democrats, although they are the only ones doing their job) impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.

And the beat list goes on, the beat list goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain

Or as the sage Yogi once said, “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded."

Of course, it was only a joke from a batshit crazy, yet jocund, jovial and ebullient orange president.

They’re gonna need a bigger talking point.

Someone in the media, I can’t recall who just now, pointed out that Pompeo might’ve graduated #1 in his West Point class, but has fallen far short of the cadet honor code, which holds that a cadet–and by extension, graduates–will not lie, cheat or steal. Also, there is the cadet prayer, which urges that people choose the “harder right” rather than the “easier wrong.” He’s been shamming on that, too(or maybe not, if you view the words “harder right” in their political context). USMA is going to have to drum him out of the alumni corps…

So fucking what! I got straight A’s in organic chemistry and biochemistry. Many of my friends almost flunked and a few did! They got tenured professorships at colleges and universities. I ended up working for the government (and that’s okay).

“…hoping he will comply…”

Why doesn’t Engle use stronger language? Why doesn’t he speak with the authority which Article I of the Constitution gives him?

“Article I of the Constitution gives Congress the power to investigate wrongdoing and we are exercising that responsibility. We EXPECT Sec of State Pompeo to comply with these lawful, constitutional subpoenas. As we have already stated–and let me make it clear–failure to comply will be taken as obstruction of justice and he will be held to account for this.”

IANAL but I think this would be the “Inherent Contempt” charge, last used in 1934, and the target did 10 days in jail. The Wiki article doesn’t say to what extent the DOJ was involved, and if they’re even remotely involved then you know how far this would go today:

Oh, god, must we really see him naked? That spectacle would surely cause permanent retinal damage.

Well, this is about as surprising as the sun rising in the east this morning. But important to document nonetheless. Thank you for the defiant letter, Mr. Secretary. It will be entered as evidence against you in the fullness of time.

“I doubt the China comment was serious … he loves to bait the press.”

Rubio started this talking point yesterday. This administration is based on joking and kidding, I guess.

I don’t think he’s very popular among the rank and file in the State Department. At least, several have happily ignored his command and have testified or will testify to Congress.

Hey, you know which SoS never needed to ignore Congressional subpoenas? Hillary.

It’s “inherent contempt.” They have a House constabulary and a nice little jail on D Street.
Last used in 1935–but still available to the Speaker.

I keep imagining this ever shrinking circle of people who actually speak to Trump eyeing each other suspiciously while they hear about Trump throwing someone new under the bus every day - Perry, Pence, etc. At some point, being loyal to someone who has no loyalty whatsoever loses its thrill.

There are a lot of calls being made from the WH that are going unanswered these days. As has been noted many times, the seeds for TRump’s destruction are all buried in his psyche and are part and parcel of his mental illness. The people who cling to him are going to get huge shrapnel wounds when he explodes.
