Republican El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump called him a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only) during Trump’s visit to the city that was reeling from a mass shooting.
Republican politicians would do themselves a world of good if they’d simply start calling Trump an ignorant asshole in public, in exactly those words. He’s going down next fall, and none of them who are normally functioning adults should want to be taken down with him. Repudiating him now is their only shot of retaining whatever dignity they have left AND their best option for remaining in office.
The dude’s a Republican, the leader of his party is treating him like shit and he’s still a Republican. Apparently self-respect is in very short supply on that side of the aisle.
El Paso Mayor Dee Margo, is a freaking snowflake, he contradicts his boss and then goes whining about him being mean to him. What’s expected of you Mr. Margo is to put on your big boy pants and understand that you don’t work for Trump, tell him what he is.
True…takes a pretty big chickenshit to suck up and say something that makes Trump’s lying sound like it wasn’t Trump’s fault too…instead of responding to Trump’s insult with “go fuck yourself.”
If any one of us around this forum were put in a room with Trump I doubt many of us would stop at ignorant asshole
The Emperor has no clothes and yet not one Republican with the exception of Justin Amash will call him out
I have a decent memory and a fair amount of general knowledge about the world and I literally cannot think of a bigger asshole in history than Donald John Trump. Anyone? I can think of monsters who killed millions, of course, of criminals and betrayers, of people whose behavior was really pretty bad, sure. But a bigger asshole? Anyone got a name to suggest? I’m seriously stumped.
I don’t have much sympathy for this mayor. He could’ve told Il Douchebag that he needs to accept basic facts and if he can’t to quit lying to the public, regardless of whatever personal insults he threw his way.
It seems obvious that this mayor has to distance himself from tRump anyway if he wants to get reelected there. Its not all that hard to see from where I sit.
Who is held up by a remarkable network of what I would call “leverages”. Any one of which can topple him. I wrote a post on another thread about what I wanted going into this election. But I must say that I am consistently surprised he is still in Office.
I also (based on my background) am far more of the opinion that Trumpism will not survive Trump.
He already was, IMHO, by saying he would greet the “office” of the presidency as a formal duty of his own office. He took his own personal self and volition out of it as much as he possibly could. Not a lot of people gave him much slack for it here but I thought it was notable. You couldn’t take it as a compliment and Trump obviously noticed that.
ETA here’s the quote again:
“And I want to clarify for the political spin that this is the office of the mayor of El Paso in an official capacity welcoming the office of the president of the United States, which I consider is my formal duty.”
" It’s too soon to say when Donald Trump’s presidency will end, but it’s not too soon to say how it will end. It will end in disgrace. And when it does, Trump’s defenders will turn on him.
Some already have. On Sunday, Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s former communications director, said that Republicans should “replace the top of the ticket in 2020.”
