In this context do you see any difference between local reporters and “national correspondents”?
(Thanks.)

@Cervantes, you will only be extremely old when you start yelling at us •ahem• youngsters on TPM to get off of your lawn. At that point we will worry about your agedness.
Although come to think about it, though, you already do that frequently. But with such eloquence.
Not frequently enough, I’m thinking.
O/T
I finally watched Breaker Morant today.
A sad and beautifully made film. Thank you for suggesting it all those months ago.
Being a fan of fascists/demagogues/bigots seems to evoke so much of a feeling of superiority that the resultant damages (in multiple ways) to quality of life are either bearable or not fathomed at all.
That is one of the explanations given for “voting against one’s interests”.
This has been known since the 1940s (and probably before)
Republicans controlling the State House and Senate. They had blatantly and openly on the floor sold out to big oil and even took envelopes of money from the chief lobbyist/paymaster Bill Allen on the floor. They felt bulletproof because it is Alaska and they have the ® after their names. But Ted got caught taking bribes from Allen, was convicted and his son was set free as part of a plea deal I am sure. Only he had to get out of politics as part of the bargain. One of the members of the CBC was a hapless Rep named Pete Kott. His moniker ever after was “Pete Got Caught”.
It’s a big frontier, wide open vistas. There’s plenty of room.
Can anyone possibly explain what the hell they are waiting for?
The Soldiers of the Queen agree:
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.
My guts flip every time I see that quote. It was my reality so many, many years ago.
Finally!
Now convince Feinstein to finally retire and have Guv Newsom replace her with Katy Porter…before Republicans take back the California Governorship!
Remember that time under the influence of LSD when you made the mistake of looking at yourself in the bathroom mirror and saw an old, shriveled creature staring back? But you came down and could confidently resume beautification projects in front of that same mirror. Now it is that old, old shriveled man looking back every morning and there is no coming down from this trip.
Oh, their larceny is grand, nothing petty about it.
^This. It is happening and McConnell knows it. They have finally pushed Dems too far. Their days of ruling by minority are coming to an end.
Not sure about local, but national yes.
What am I missing here? The Constitution didn’t stipulate what had to be the rules in the Senate. So why is the filibuster held up as the Golden Calf?
The Senate doesn’t function at all any longer. The gridlock has blocked major legislation for almost 50 years now. It’s time to make the body responsive to the needs of citizens instead of political corruption. Why is there even a debate about this?
The last time I looked at a math book, a majority was defined as 50 not 60.
So just get rid of the filibuster and get back to legislating which is the job description in the Constitution. Republics operate on laws not political rules.
Durbin is the Majority Whip in the Senate.
Same Job.
But each Senator has agency, and sometimes they don’t all fall in line.
And I’m pretty sure everyone in the Senate is older than the current filibuster rules.
Which means the rules don’t even qualify as “old.”
Agreed, it’s more like “less easy” than “more painful”, but it’s progress nonetheless.
Biden’s way gets us exactly nowhere.
The filibuster must go.
Period.
