Dozens of New Voting Restrictions Have Popped Up After the 2020 Election, Report Finds - TPM – Talking Points Memo

When voters go to the polls in November, they’ll face dozens of new restrictions on the ease with which they can vote that weren’t there in 2020. Fueled in part by the Big Lie, states have put in place 33 new restrictive voting laws in 20 states since January 1, 2021, according to a new report by the Brennan Center for Justice released on Thursday morning.

I suppose if people wanted the right to vote without restrictions they should have been born a country club Republican. All others can fuck off.

When a party can’t win elections with their crappy candidates, then make voting as hard as possible.

They still don’t get that restricting early voting and ballot boxes hurts their voters - especially the old guys yelling at the television.

Is there anyone surprised by this after SCOTUS gutted the Voting Rights Act?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller…

I feel so lucky to live in NY (and work for the Board of Elections.) No such nonsense here…for now!

Before finishing reading the rest of the story, I want to point out a big lie in the story.

“Fueled in part by the Big Lie,states have put in place 33 new restrictive voting laws in 20 states since January 1, 2021”

The above is a big lie because what is fueling these new restrictive voting laws is that Republicans lost. That is most supporting voter suppression know the big lie is a big lie and that they lost at democracy and are therefore trying to change the rules limit or otherwise change the democratic process.

And in this respect, the dispute over 2020 has shown the American system to be uniquely vulnerable. The US is the only Western democracy where the senior election officials are not civil servants. At the state level, it is the post of secretary of state that runs the election. And that person is elected, as a Democrat or a Republican.

And when Dems lose truly rigged elections the news media will proclaim, “Both sides have an election trust problem.”

Now here is a thought: What if it does not work?

Anybody who is not a MAGA/QAnon cultist knows that this is not about voter security but voter suppression (literacy tests and poll taxes replaced by Voter ID and closing Polling Places). So what if with all these attempts at keeping BIPOC and poor Whites from voting (yeah they vote Democratic) the GQP still gets slammed at the Midterms. What are the Republican Leg (and the 6 Supreme Operatives) going to do? Pass laws that say it’s illegal to vote if your not a straight white male?

The voting restrictions did not “pop up.” They were created deliberately.

Terrible headline.

Sorry,just cranky today.

Yes, the Big Lie is the made-up excuse. The cause is the desire by the Right to not let “those people “ vote.

@rxbusa… We do not communicate very well in terms of what the American people need.

Yeah, I think George Lakoff gave up.

I saw Frank Luntz the other day (1/6/2022 on Morning Joe) blaming Democrats reaction to the 2000 steal for the 1/6/2021 insurrection.
