On Jan. 6, 2021, as he realized the U.S. Capitol was being overwhelmed by rioters protesting former President Trump’s election loss, Harry Dunn strapped on a 20 pound steel chest plate, grabbed an M4 rifle, and joined the battle to keep the crowds back. Dunn, who was a Capitol Police officer, has been fighting ever since that day and is now attempting a run for Congress.
I am here first to encourage you to support Officer Dunn’s campaign. I am a Marylander and he will not be running in my district but I will do what I can to get him seated in the People’s House.
Dunn told TPM he hopes to help “saturate Congress with individuals that really push back against the lies.”
Much respect for Harry Dunn, he’d be exactly the kind of representative this country needs in congress. I’m not from Maryland but I do intend to support his campaign with whatever I can afford to donate. Let’s do everything we can to get congress saturated with individuals committed to actually fighting for the betterment of the country.
Why TF his rant is not Gospel for every Democrat in politics is really disheartening. If he doesn’t make it, DNC should hire him as Comms director. Wishing him all the best.
Can you imagine how the Trumpers will feel knowing a Capitol Police Officer, who they were part of his attempted killing, have to face him everyday of their totally worthless lives?
"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” ― Nelson Mandela
I have spent my entire life seeing the majority of Americans say that Republicans are good for the military, good for law and order, good for police, and good for the economy. Despite all evidence to the contrary, this has never changed from the time of Nixon on. It is so ingrained that the majority of police, border guards and military people believe it - it is axiomatic to them.
I have spent my entire life at a Mad Hatter party in Wonderland.
Dunn also believes that the violence against the police that day blew up the right’s claim to “back the blue” and support law enforcement.
“It’s right on course for the lies that they perpetuate. Very simply, it’s just a hashtag and there’s no meaning or anything,” said Dunn. “I think ‘Back The Blue’ should have an asterisk next to it. They only support the blue if they don’t stand in the way of Trump supporters or MAGA supporters.”
Exactly right.
Any ‘thin blue line’ supporters who sides with the insurrectionist crowd that day showed their true colors.
Five deferment Don who mocks POWs , Gold Star families, the dead in cemeteries for serving, is feared by the cowards who claim to be Republicans is so shameful they should claim to be traitors to our Country and Trump is their God and only God.
Especially the actual members of Congress. This isn’t just “back the blue” in the abstract. We’re talking about the people who were actually putting their lives on the line that day in order to protect the very people who are now back-stabbing them. “Disgraceful” is too mild a word for it.
Liz Cheney has been, by any reasonable measure, not just a Republican but a pretty damn conservative one. But, after Jan 6th, she made a conscious decision to put her duty (and basic truth-telling) ahead of her party and her career. There’s a whole lot about her politics and her track record to disagree with, but in this one particular case, when it really mattered (and at significant personal cost), she chose well.
Elise Stefanik was originally a bipartisan centrist. Check out some of the “lifetime ratings” from wingnut groups cited in her Wikipedia article:
Stefanik was ranked the 19th-most bipartisan House member during the first session of the 115th United States Congress by the Bipartisan Index. The conservative advocacy group Heritage Action gave her a lifetime score of 48%, but an 84% score since the 117th Congress began in January 2021, compared to an average of 95% among House Republicans during that session. The American Conservative Union gave Stefanik a lifetime rating of 44%. The conservative Club for Growth gave her a lifetime rating of 35%, lower than Squad member Ilhan Omar’s.
Stefanik, too, made a conscious choice. She intentionally set out to refashion herself into a Trumpist troll. She chose evil.
Seems like someone I could support. But is he really a Democrat? Will he support other Democratic policies? This not a knock against Mr. Dunn, but rather the author of the article Hunter Walker.
Hunter has done some good stuff. I realize this article wasn’t mainly about Mr. Dunn’s policies. But it does seem a couple of paragraphs could have been expended on his policies for us who are interested.
I have heard him speak about gun safety, voting and reproductive rights, and racial inequities and health disparities. He studied public health in college and was an outstanding football player for James Madison U (almost went pro). He’s 6’7" and is described as a gentle giant. But yes, we need to hear more from him. J6 is his ticket into the conversation.
