Donated by a country with ties to Iran. What could go wrong?
This New Yorker interview appears to try to put Elissa Slotkin in the best light, but she seems more like a proponent of Schumerism: she thinks Democrats can turn the tide with weak tea and equivocation, like her saying “Trump will be really, really right about tariffs, or really, really wrong.” What kind of rallying cry is that for an opposition party?
Worse, Slotkin insinuates that Dems should deprioritize saving democracy and the rule of law because some unnamed Michigan constituent can’t afford to send their kid to summer camp.
Finally, an elected figure publicly slamming other Dems like AOC or Chris Murphy, who are vigorously taking on Trump, because she disagrees with their rhetorical style, is suicidal for a party that needs to be a unified front against Trump.
It’s great she won Michigan in a Republican year, but I’d hold off on putting her in the presidential nomination for 2028. Middle-of-the-road, sail-trimming politicians might be suitable in normal times. But these aren’t normal times. Equivocating about tariffs or the rule of law simply isn’t going to cut through the abysmal ignorance and childish emotionalism of the American voter on a national scale.
Non-paywall:
What could be more American than knowing God’s Anointed King Over Us will be flying around on Bordello Force One?
And right now Pulpit Pimps in Trump’s orbit are begging to be the one to christen it with a bottle of Welch’s Grape Juice!
Welcome, you sweet baby. What’s your name?
TRUMP FAUX NEWS: We Slant, You Swallow
Trump caved on the China embargo (goodbye all those new U.S. factories!), but 30% tariff is still going to raise prices, contribute to inflation, and put some narrow margin companies out of business. In any normal time that would be considered a very high tax on imports.
ETA: I saw @theghostofeustacetilley 's post below about Biden tariffs, those are narrow targets. There are many other goods made in China where this is a higher tariff than before, plus the elimination of the De Minimis exception that’s going to kill off some home-based sales through Temu etc.
And where is the win?
Tariffs essentially back to Trump/Biden levels on most products. If they are across the board tariff reductions to 30%, it is a huge win for China, since the tariffs on core industries was significantly higher. 100% for EVs and also under Biden:
The kicker is the uncertainty of it all. Corporations plan further out than 90 days. And small businesses?
“China was the only country to retaliate against Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs and in the end, got the same 10% rate and 90 day extension like everyone else. I am not an expert in higher dimensional chess but I don’t see how that strengthens Trump’s hand in future negotiations.”
Looks like the cat could feed a family of coyotes for a few days.
First the Trump Flying Bordello and now the brand spanking new Trump Throne Room in the White Power House
He reduced the tariffs from catastrophic to merely very damaging.
Also, Q2 is going to be a wash, because it takes 30-45 days for new shipments to make it from China.
Not sure how he got so fat. I don’t feed him a lot of food (vet says so). Maybe he’s eating dog food as well? Or maybe he’s a Flerken
Look Leavitt the 145% tariff was trump’s doing. Not China and trump’s 30% tariff is still brutal and solves nothing.
Forget it Ralph! It’s the New York Times dialing the sanewashing up to 11!
It’s her glands.
Some spayed cats seem to “flab out” a bit, even on a normal diet.
