Merrick Garland and the FBI are thinking “All that thumb sucking, for nothing?!?!”

Sherwin’s office, with the help of the FBI, was responsible for prosecuting all crimes stemming from the Jan. 6 attack. He had made headlines the day after by refusing to rule out the possibility that President Donald Trump himself could be culpable. “

But according to a copy of the briefing document, absent from Sherwin’s 11-page presentation to Garland on March 11, 2021, was any reference to Trump or his advisers — those who did not go to the Capitol riot but orchestrated events that led to it.

Eleven pages? That’s a half-hour briefing. Figure a title slide, an intro slide and a summary slide, that’s eight pages on the riot.

Briefers have to fit their presentations into the time the boss allows, and Garland gave him half an hour.

Half an hour. For his first brief on the Capitol riot. He’s not just meek, he’s an incompetent administrator.

For those wondering what Kari Lake is doing these days… She’s found employment at a 2 star hotel in Florida.

I don’t watch the right side of the spectrum’s news shows, nor read much of their rags. Have any of them plowed through the opening WaPo gave them? Seems they’d all be touting “See, both the DOJ and FBI didn’t think there was much there with Trump on the insurrection front! They all looked into it and decided there wasn’t enough to pursue!” Has anyone heard someone on Fox or elsewhere go there?

the threat to the Republic that Trump and MAGA world pose

Anyone who could not see the threat to the American people was obviously paid not to, or was simply not paying attention. My gut says it was the former.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is joining with the Donald Trump and the MAGA wing of the GOP in promising to bring the Justice Department to heel.

What does it mean? It means that even the anti-Trump candidates will kowtow to the MAGA crowd.

My frustration with the slow pace of the DOJ J6 investigation rollout was evident in my TPM posts at the time. Still bothers me but, I do think the previous admin had in fact weaponized the DOJ so severely and obviously that it did take some time to clean it up when Garland took charge. Another example of how the current rethugs in charge accuse the Biden admin of currently doing exactly what their previous admin did. Hypocrites and traitors!

Upvoted for the cat.

The cat says:

A Washington Post investigation found that more than a year would pass before prosecutors and FBI agents jointly embarked on a formal probe of actions directed from the White House to try to steal the election. Even then, the FBI stopped short of identifying the former president as a focus of that investigation.

That dumpster considers his golf shirts as important as classified information just shows us how little comprehension this dolt has about anything beyond immediate self gratification.

Of course this is just a lame attempt at justifying his theft but telling none the less.

So, Trump’s defense is that he is a compulsive hoarder and too busy to sort out his junk…nuclear secrets or golf shirts, hard choice!
Shouldn’t the judge require a mental competency evaluation to stand trial?

Fuck off with that bullshit. Yesterday’s WaPo story was purely bureaucratic recriminations for Fat Boy going down on the documents case. Garland and Monaco put the fake electors case back on the agenda after their interlocutory predecessors took it off the table. And if it hadn’t escaped your brain-genius brain, Trump just got indicted for fucking espionage. You can bitch that it took longer than it should have, but take your told-you-so Bernie Bro garbage take.

I’m sure this won’t appease the “Get Hunter Biden” people, but they will have to come up with actual evidence if they keep this up.

Let the spectacle begin!

I went through a mental paradigm shift a few days ago after having read a lot of perceptive essays (from pundits like David Brooks https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/15/opinion/trump-indictment-president.html and Tom Friedman https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/13/opinion/trump-indictment-presidency.html, of all persons:)) concerning the Trump candidacy. What I took away from them is that as horrible and corrosive as Donald Trump is, we can’t let him dominate our consciousness. I remembered a scene from a rerun of a gladiator movie that I watched decades ago on a hot, summer Saturday afternoon. The emperor stood up in the Coliseum, raised his staff and said, “Let the spectacle begin!”. I forgot everything else about the movie except that the hero eventually wins! The point is that taking one or two steps back and calmly observing the Trump phenomenon for what it is (bad, but ultimately survivable) will be key for getting through the next 2 years with our sanity intact.
