Don’t Forget: Mike Lee Went To The Mat For The Fake Electors

My late father used to call that a $#it-eating grin.

That’s what that is.

Now I think of him as mealy mouthed. But really there needs to be something better. So off to looking at synonyms and I have to admit, I like this one.

Pecksniffian

Seth Pecksniff, a character with a holier-than-thou attitude in Charles Dickens’s 1844 novel Martin Chuzzlewit , was no angel, though he certainly tried to pass himself off as one. Pecksniff liked to preach morality and brag about his own virtue, but in reality he was a deceptive rascal who would use any means to advance his own selfish interests.

Ok, so this badge of Herschel’s …is a…
“stupid little dipshit badge”

But is “dipshit” a noun signifying Herschel?

Or is it simply an adjective modifying the word “badge”

Herschel: uh maybe it is both?

Lying liars aren’t really able to shift gears to the truth as easily as folks who generally tell the truth most of the time. Personally, I hope the DOJ has got Lee in their sights and dead to rights…

Minor point, but thanks, Josh K., for using “went to the mat” rather than “went to the mattresses” like a lot of people are doing these days.

Used to be only ‘mat’ or ‘mats’ and the meaning was quite apparent: you wrestled on a mat. Going to the mat(s) meant you weren’t just talk, you were getting to that level of nitty-gritty combat for something.

(I have no idea what ‘going to the mattresses’ is supposed to allude to. Crash out for the night? Have sex with someone? Fuck if I know, it makes no sense at all. So thanks.)

Yeah, just like a Red Guard waived Mao’s Little Red Book during China’s “Cultural Revolution” in the 60s…

After a minor kerfuffle because Don Jr. used ‘mattresses’ it seems there are two sayings. Most of us, for 100 years used it as a wrestling term meaning you were going to take it as far as needed, all the way, by going to the mat over an issue.

Evidently, there is also a mafia term when a mob war breaks out…all the goombas go to a hidden location where they hole up and fight from. Partly to keep all their players in one place, keep an eye on them, strength in numbers, nobody left isolated or alone. Partly, to keep their families safe by staying away from their wives and kids. The secret location would have mattresses all over for them to sleep on. So ‘going to the mattresses’ meant it was time for Open Season between rival mobs instead of the normal uneasy co-existence or minor skirmishing.
