The Justice Department bluntly distanced itself from President Trump’s personal lawyer on Sunday in a statement saying it wouldn’t have met with Rudy Giuliani to discuss a separate case with one of his clients had it known of New York federal prosecutors’ probe of his business associates, the New York Times reported.
I don’t know how the DoJ operates, but isn’t the DC office the head of the whole operation? Shouldn’t they have know that the SDNY was investigating Giuliani’s associates? This denial doesn’t pass the smell test.
I’ve lost track of all the places Parnas and Fruman have been seen, and the people they’ve been seen with in those places. Weddings, funerals, banquets, fundraisers, campaign events, inaugural events, bars, dinners, lunches, hotel lobbies. They’re like Zelig #1 and Zelig #2. It strains credulity for the GOP to even attempt putting distance between themselves and these two.
Attorney General William Barr was reportedly aware of the Southern District of New York probe into Parnas and Fruman over allegations of campaign finance violations, but the officials who agreed to meet with Giuliani were not, according to the Times.
Oh yeah, this makes perfect sense. I can’t wait for a real prosecutor to scrutinize Barr’s behavior as AG.
Trump by Thursday: “Rudy? We met briefly… I think he was on my legal team at one point. Don’t really know him. Haven’t spoken to him in person in many years, so I don’t know anything about what he was up to. I hear he’s very crazy though, so you shouldn’t believe anything he says.”
#1: "Oh, THAT investigation. Well, we didn’t know about THAT investigation until it hit the papers. #2: “Yeah, good. With that line, we won’t have to get Barr mixed up in it.”
