DOJ Watchdog Releases Report On Comey | Talking Points Memo

I do find it somewhat funny how this report is similar to Comey’s report on Hillary. No crime was committed but the report still goes out of its way to attack the person.

These jerks will twist themselves into pretzels to manufacture some kind of “case”.

They can do anything to you that you can’t stop them from doing.

I marvel at the idea that Comey should be indicted for making notes after he met with Trump. Apparently the real “violation” here is that he took the notes home - notes that he would not necessarily have thought should be considered DoJ property.

Horowitz, like a lot of people in this case, is deliberately ignoring the bigger picture here: the notes were evidence that the President was breaking the law.

The specific reason we have whistleblower protection laws is that whistleblowing is against employer policy almost all the time.

IOW the IG found Comey’s actions were typical of whistleblowers.

I would add that the top Dems are being lazy. They are not personally threatened here and many of them have been DC denizens since the 1970s. They just cannot be bothered. Much easier to pretend “Trump isn’t worth it” and play with the cats until next November.

It’s kind of sad that a bumbling, cowardly idiot like Trump is intimidating people. There’s a lot of systemic failure going on these days.

Oh, my stars and garters. Jim Comey…a “policy violator” and possibly even a “rule breaker”??? What is to be donE? I SAID: WHAT IS TO BE DONE!!!

Which is one of many reasons I don’t want Biden as president. He talks a good game but in the end he ALWAYS folds, like he did with Thomas. He’s part of that old centrist neolib Dem establishment from the 70’s-90’s of which I’m hoping Obama was the last successful representative of. They did some good in their day, but their methods are weak and accommodating and their goals too narrow and short. They justify it by calling it “pragmatic incrementalism” but what it really is is cowardly and, yes, lazy.

I’m still waiting to hear why we never learned what the servers in Drumpf Towers were doing that were connected to Alfa Bank in Russia, and told to be set up as a backchannel by Putin himself. Mueller did not seem to go there with all his concern for Russia’s interference, and we are still left without answers on that score.

Mueller did not address the cyber-traffic one way or the other in his report. That has left some Democrats on Capitol Hill unsatisfied. “Even in the wake of the Mueller report, we don’t know the meaning of the 2016 communications between Alfa Bank and Trump Organization servers, nor do we even know whether the FBI has fully investigated those links,” says Rhode Island Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a member of the Judiciary Committee.

And…

Alfa Bank was neck deep in a controversy between Russia and the Trump campaign at the time. Beginning in the spring of 2016, according to cyber analysts, Alfa Bank’s computer servers in Russia had “pinged” a rarely-used email server connected to the Trump Organization more than 2,700 times with computer-domain “look-ups” — essentially a knock on the door from one computer server seeking to talk to another one. The “look-ups,” and were identified by independent computer analysts tracking Internet traffic.

And…

One of them, Jean Camp, a computer science professor at Indiana University, examined Alfa Bank’s email “look-ups,” and posted an analysis of the Internet traffic soon after it surfaced, urging more investigation. A number of experts in the field, including Camp, said the computer traffic had the characteristics of a covert email chain that could facilitate the transfer of data or other hidden communications. The Trump server involved in the traffic was taken down in September of 2016, soon after the bank’s Washington representatives learned of questions about the suspicious activity.

Its amazing to me what we still don’t know and how thoroughly buried tRump and the media now have placed this entire episode in our history. Now its all about tRump’s payback and enemies list rather than what he’s actually done to cheat his way into the presidency.

He knew what he was doing. He also knew that if he didn’t keep a private copy, they would just “disappear”.

I’m pretty sure that the notes were informal and not mandated by official FBI procedure and thus not as stringently subject to FBI and DoJ rules as would more formal and mandated ones be, that would have to be entered into some FBI case management database. They were effectively no different from making mental notes, and then sharing them with outsiders. So long as nothing classified was disclosed, how is that unethical or illegal? Perhaps unwise, but that’s a judgement call.

Ms. Sneed and Mr. Kovensky,

You wrote:

Former FBI Director Jim Comey violated bureau rules and procedures in his handling of certain memos he drafted after his May 2017 firing,

This is not only grammatically incorrect, but it is factually incorrect. What you are saying here is that these memos were drafted after Comey’s firing. Try this:

After his May 2017 firing, Former FBI Director Jim Comey violated rules and procedures in his handling of certain memos he had drafted during his tenure.

I am not surprised by this result. Frankly I was always dubious about Comey’s claim that he followed procedure by the way he handled memos.

“Comey’s characterization of the Memos as personal records finds no support in the law and is wholly incompatible with the plain language of the statutes, regulations, and policies defining Federal records, and the terms of Comey’s FBI Employment Agreement,” the report said.

Is not a surprising result regardless of who is in the White House or who is Attorney General.

At the very least, Comey, an attorney, violated the canon of ethics prohibiting disclosure of client information generated while he was representing his client, the United States of America.

Who’s the arbiter of FBI policies, if not the director? Policies are not law, they’re defined practices.

So when can we expect a DOJ report on the conduct of the FBI New York office during 2016?..

Bueller? crickets…Bueller?

This is nothing.
Wait for the full Barr report to come out at a useful time before the election.
Just like “Mueller Time” caused problems for Trump, Barr will give him a boost when he needs it.

I hope there is something they can do to Comey. He sand-bagged HRC’s campaign every way he could find to do it. I’m glad he is out of government and I hope he never finds a way to worm himself back in. He almost drives me to swear. OK, I’ll say it. Fuck Jim Comey and the horse he rode in on!
