The Trump administration has a track record of defending the religious convictions of its base in spite of restrictions put on public gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now the Department of Justice is swooping in to deliver that message to a county in Maryland.
KINDA OT: This is funny. There is a hold harmless clause that people must acknowledge online if they want tickets to donnieâs little racist roundup in Tulsa next week.
Basically, you can sue the campaign on the hall if you contract Covid:
Other parts of Maryland are already holding church services, but with attendance and social distancing rules in place. Montgomery County is essentially part of the ring of suburbs around Washington DC - and one of the hardest hit areas of the state.
The DOJ asking the state about Montgomery County is senseless - the continuing restrictions on religious services were implemented by the county - not the state. Gov. Hogan announced reopening earlier than expected but allowed counties to choose a slower course of action if they felt it was necessary.
As for myself, this will be our third week with socially-distanced services, but Iâll still watch services online from home - Better safe than sorry for my age & risk factors.
Once again why didnât churches and other houses of worship hold outdoor services? Hold multiple services on Sunday to fit the limit and service their congregations?
If a grocery store or a TJ Maxx can limit the number of people who can come in shop, then churches can do the same thing.
Dreiband also cited an example of hundreds of protesters who he says âpacked into a libraryâ in Bethesda despite social-distancing concerns.
I live in MoCo. All our libraries are CLOSED, dufus.
And every church I have seen has a website for on-line services. Although I admit there may be a few Joeâs Bar, Grill, and Religious Experience locations that are unable to open in the more rural parts of the county.
Or have the priest, minister, or pastor drive to each personâs home to conduct a personalized service? They could conduct it on the homeownerâs front lawn, and that way the neighbors could see how holy they are.
Another example of a complete lack of sincerity and misdirection by the DOJ under olâBile-y Barr. If they cared about the First Amendment they would not attempt to pit freedom of expression against religious freedom with a false narrative. Their clear point here is to undermine the First Amendment by doing so. Seems like they donât like it.
Which is exactly what my parish, per guidance from the Diocese of Monterey, is going to be doing starting this weekend. Regular Mass inside resumes, but limited to 25% of the usual capacity, distance, masks. Overflow area outside, and also continuing with the live-streaming service theyâve been doing ever since the lockdown started.
