DOJ Started Getting Serious About Jan. 6 Higher Ups … In May

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

As the laggardly Justice Department played catchup to the Jan. 6 committee probe, a federal grand jury back in May subpoenaed the National Archives for all the records it had turned over to the House committee in its parallel investigation. The NYT has the subpoena:

The Christian Right Plots How To Avenge Mar-A-Lago Raid was one of the scariest things I have read in long time. I knew these guys were out there, but I didn’t realize how far out they had gone. The GOP’s base supporters aren’t just a cult, they are transforming into a cult with an increasingly violent philosophy. The ‘Christian Right’ may be an increasingly effective political movement, but it has little or nothing to do with Christianity as I have understood it.

CDC Director Acknowledges Colossal COVID Failure

The big question is whether Dr. Rochelle Walensky can fix it.

After suffering over one millions deaths and losing untold billions in productivity to COVID I think we can all rest assured lessons have been learned and the nation’s response to the next superbug will be far more proactive and effective.

  :joy: OMG, that was a good one!!

We refer to that as “checking IDs”.How else is the cat to be certain that you know who he is?

Ha! Cool. Are you in Wisconsin? I live way in the southeast of Pennsylvania, in a small sliver that mostly doesn’t have bears. Plenty of them in the rest of the state.

There is some comedy gold in there, for sure.

“Lies and distortions are effective, they’re very good at it,” Johnson said, referring to Democrats. “I don’t want to engage in the politics of personal destruction. I will not become what they’ve become.”

“…unlike my crazy radical socialist opponent who wants to take your guns, collectivize your front lawn, coddle criminals, and introduce Sharia law.”

Also, great pic.

And this is the predicament of R’s across the country.

America is sick to death of Trumpism. Even the GOP is ready to move on.

There simply is no way to straddle Trumpism and reality, any longer. But that’s what they’re up against.

As DeSantis will be, in 2024.

And they’re beginning to eat their own…

The Dems are a big tent political party for America’s reality-based citizens. The only big political party left standing.

The GOP is a christo-fascist performance cult acting out phantom end times fantasies that crowd out the robust political discourse a complicated society needs. They act like a religion, a new, very tacky religion that privileges lies and violence.

Between now and November the performance fascists will fill the media with fear and lies and threats. It will, I’m sure, be worse than we expect.

The GOP is only interested in putting on a show not governing. If they take the House in November, they won’t legislate, they’ll persecute.

Trump’s claim that FBI agents searched his wife Melania’s closet, feeding right-wing paranoias that the “deep state” is filled with sexual deviants.

It’s funny how perverts fixate on sexual deviation.

Drinking, and especially sake drinking, is a very social event in Japan. Less social, less drinky.

I got chased by a pig while riding up a hill like that once. Seeing this makes me glad we don’t have bears running loose through our woods. Proceed with (extra) caution!

Um, if Trump declares his candidacy he’ll win the nomination in a romp. Regardless of any criminal entanglements he’s been indicted for, tried for, or convicted of. And he’ll have better than even odds of winning. People may be sick of him, but not enough of them are sick of him. And the GOP is not moving on if he enters the race. They all shit their pants and piss down their legs at the very thought of being on the receiving end of his wrath, and that of his rabid loyalists. If DeSantis declares there will be people doxxing his kid’s schools and threatening to shoot them as they get off the bus home. And kill his wife leaving the grocery. Mark it.

The Rusians refer to DeSantis as “Number 2.” Tfg is “Number 1.” How appropriate. I swear I didn’t make this up.

Republicans i know and talk to agree with this. The pendulum was swayed too far. They’re ready to gravitate back to the middle.
