DOJ Sides With Trump In Effort To Block House From Investigating His Finances | Talking Points Memo

Echoing arguments made by personal attorneys for President Trump, the Justice Department weighed in Tuesday on Trump’s side in his bid to halt a congressional probe of his finances.

What a shock! Who could have imagined that Trump’s DOJ, controlled by his own personal Roy Cohn (in the form of Barr), would have taken the same side as Trump?

Good grief. Congress has oversight authority and does not need a legislative purpose. Oversight includes investigating graft and corruption and stopping conflicts of interest.

We are now a fascist banana republic and no, that is no longer a hyperbolic partisan lament.

That is only operable when Republicans are investigating Democrats, and especially when the issue is completely made up for the occasion. (We cannot have Democrats investigating Republicans, especially when there is so much that really needs to be covered up. It would threaten the fabric of the universe.)

I don’t think this will end well for the DOJ but, please proceed Mr Barr.

Long past time to rein in the ‘unitary executive’, bullshit.

Barr and the D.O.I.**are playing their cards right in the open. We have gone from “lawyers representing the president” to “nation being the president”

We are now a fascist banana republic

So Mr. Sniffit, how then are the House investigating committees to make any real progress?

“Echoing arguments made by personal attorneys for President Trump, the Justice Department weighed in Tuesday on Trump’s side…”

I thought the Justice Department was Trump’s personal attorney.

All these lawyers for trump running around, busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest, and they’re going to accomplish nothing beyond making monumental fools of themselves.

Cover-Up Barr strikes again…

At one point in the filing, the Justice Department appeared to echo an argument made by appeals court judge and recent Trump appointee Neomi Rao.

Once again The IGNORANCE:
Rao: “what evidence there is” that the House of Representatives has “authorized the committee to take this action?”

Rao: “Is there any limitation on the ability of the House to delegate its power to a single committee?” she asked. “Could they delegate the full authority of the House to a single committee?”

Does Rao even know what the unilateral subpoena power rules changed in 2015 by her very own party? Does the DOJ lawyers and Cover-Up General Barr know this or were they just ignoring this so they can have talking point for the R/MAGAts?

Not only does Cover-up General/Rao/DOJ lawyers appear NOT impartial & neutral aka partisan and not doing their job for the American people, they also appear to be ignorant!

Yep, as others have said - no surprise here. We know who the DOJ answers to and it’s not to the people.

In the meantime, could TPM please stop using the ‘angry black man’ photo of Cummings on their articles? This isn’t the first time this stock photo was used and it’s not germaine to the topic. Seriously - it’s just not relevant.

Elijah Cummings is one of the most fair-minded, thoughtful, and even-tempered members of Congress. Of all the photos TPM could have chosen, why that one?

Sometimes I think that the biggest impediment to us responding in the right way to Mr. Barr is for us to recognize the truth:

Trump is a gangster
Barr is an enabler of the gangster

Reminds me of the one about the guy who gets on a bus, sits down, looks up and sees other riders talking to him and gesturing something about his ears. So he puts up his hands and apologizes, saying he can’t hear them b/c he has bananas in his ears. It’s an old old stoner joke.

I am unfamiliar with that particular organization (but I don’t know if the same can be said for Barr)
