The conservative Supreme Court wants to find a way to punt on a case challenging President Trump’s anti-immigrant census apportionment policy.
Ahem.
“Can [the Trump administration] not provide us with any more information than what you provided in your answer to the Chief Justice [which] was that, basically, they’re working on it,” [asked Alito].
Answer was no.
“There’s nothing that stops the court from ruling on the facial validity of this policy,” Ho said.
Maybe, if you don’t count embarrassment.
Trump’s acting Solicitor General essentially begged the Court not to let Trump’s opponents “run out the clock.” We’ll see what Roberts et al. make of this.
I, for one, am appalled at this Rodent American slur!
If the Trumpp admin planned the D-Day invasion, the plan would have fit on a 3x5 card, written with a Sharpie.
Just like the cheaper/better healthcare plan and the plan to fight covid.
And I am appalled by your rodent nationalism.
Can SCOTUS mandate the CB formulate and present its plan? Sure looks like this is deliberate obscuration
“DOJ’s Squirreliness”. They gather nuts.
IANAL, but if ever there were rock-star lawyers when it comes to immigration law, I think Dale Ho would be among them.
How much harm can Trump do to America before he leaves office?
This is the real question the Supreme Court will answer with this case, the amount of harm it will allow Trump to do before he leaves office.
No, it’s the DOJ nuts who are gathering the squirrels.
There’s cheek!
Why does Wilbur Ross look like a live skeleton?
Am I missing something here?
When my wife and I filled out our census form, there was no box to check for “undocumented.”
How in the world can the Trump Administration guess who is undocumented?
Can someone enlighten me?
No word from acting Justice Kavanaugh?
I’ve always thought red squirrels are cute, yet feisty.
What I’m getting out of all this is that Trump wanted to eliminate counting all those undocumented folks in the decennial census, but Ross couldn’t figure out how to accomplish this, even with DoJ’s help. So now the pandemic has put a speed bump in the process, a hinderance to any census even if it wasn’t Trump trying rig the numbers.
The justices seem to not want to deal with this because the text seems to be pretty clear. Trump promised that the Census Bureau has or has access to some secret stash of info that can determine the number of undocumented people in the country. Which makes me wonder if they have this info why wasn’t it turned over to ICE?
The States and ACLU are trying to point out the text, the Chief Justice is trying to make this go away by say that these two entities don’t have standing until such time as Trump’s plan is concluded.
To me the common sense practical answer would be to say “take the info that was gathered, check the results the best that you can, follow the text, and screw Trump”, but that’s just me.
Sorry (not sorry) couldn’t resist.
Guess “batshitcraziness” wasn’t sufficiently descriptive enough…
