DOJ Moves To Become Trump’s Defense Team In Lawsuit Alleging Rape In 90s

The Department of Justice formally requested on Tuesday night to take over as President Donald Trump’s defense in journalist E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit that stems from her allegation that Trump once raped her in the mid-90s.

Can’t be legal.

Or moral, or decent.

But it is a PERFECT example of the rot of Republican.

Clearly the news of the Trump campaign being broke is true. Now they have to figure out a different way to steal from the public.

I guess the DOJ is as good as any.

What say you, Marco Rubio, Old or New Testament tweet this morning?

Taxpayers get to foot Donnie’s legal fees for his crimes before taking office??? Are you shitting me? Scandalous! Rot!

Oh good, another impeachable offense to slide by with a sternly worded letter.

It’s a dodge to kick the can down the road so that the Orange IMPOTUS doesn’t have to face deposition while still in office (the next stage of the current civil suit). DOJ and anyone with a brain knows that this will get kicked back to state court, but it’ll take months to drag through the Federal courts before that happens.

Because rape denial is “acting within the scope of his office or employment.” I’ll borrow this temporarily from @inversion:

This is about money. tRump is BROKE. He’s already spent millions of campaign funds on his legal woes and this is no different. He wants the American taxpayers to pay for his defense of raping a woman. I don’t recall Bill Clinton using the Justice Dept when he was having his legal woes. Barr doesn’t seem to be as effective as one might think. Barr failed to get the case against Michael Flynn thrown out. Barr failed to get Roger Stone’s sentence reduced. Barr failed to keep Michael Cohen in prison. Barr failed to stop the arrests of Lev, Igor, and Steve Bannon. I don’t think this is legal. I also think this is a stall tactic. However, Carroll seems to ready for him.

I can’t imagine that they will ever be able to rid the DOJ of the incipient rot that it now has. They only way to be sure would be to fire everybody and start over.

When Bill Clinton said “I did not have sexual; relations with that woman” he was the President and acting as such. I’m sure Ken Starr would have been cool with DOJ deafening it. This is going to be stopped. But damn what a stupid thing to do with en election 2 months away.

This woman has a " blue dress" presumably with Trump’s body fluids on it. The fervor Trump’s putting into his defense is proof enough that she has it. If Trump had not done what she says he give a sample and laugh when it came back a mismatch. Then sue the shit out of her. There’s a reason Trump’s not being Trump like in this case.

Such a grotesque abuse of power… and as such … it is looking like a virtual acknowledgment that the individual - Donald J. Trump - is factually and morally guilty of the charges… and that this absurd legal manipulation is the only path for him to escape a near certain conviction.

Her lawyers would certainly be able to challenge the legitimacy of this, I’d think. It’s absurd on its face.

And yeah, the campaign does seem to be out of money. Hard to believe, almost two months out, but somehow when a nest of thieves has a big pot of money to play with it’s not that surprising that whoops it dries up quick. Running through a huge pot of money and ending up broke is a Trump tradition, though; it’s as much a part of his identity as gold paint.

It may not be as bad as it seems. The only thing keeping this cabal together is the fact that Trump has presidential powers. After January 21, if American want’s it and Trump is gone so are those powers and everyone is free to go on the record. I imagine a lot of lower staffers have thumb drives with the goods on them. I’d sure as hell do that if I were one of them.

Nothing to do with the DoJ - it`s just Ms Barr (bent AG) being a Member of Orange Me*s Cabal .

Or nuke it from orbit.

I think Barr bails on this after he’s deluged with counsel to give it up. It really can’t stand in America.

Touhey argued in the new filing that Trump was “acting within the scope of his office

So I guess we missed the pivot.
