The early January departure of a Georgia U.S. attorney swept up in then-President Trump’s anger about the election results is now being probed by the Justice Department’s inspector general, the Washington Post reported Thursday evening.
Christine expected to find cases of fraud because he’d heard it on TV. I don’t suppose it occurred to him ask his colleagues who actually knew the facts.
What they are likely to have a “dump truck” of is cases of election interference. Not fraud, unless you realize that acquiescing to the interference would have created a fraudulent result to the election.
That’s the thing. I have never before seen a political party more dismissive of what directly lies ahead of it.
There will be so many Trump-related legal actions going against Trump, his family and his associates, that the ideas of “running for office” or “leading the party” will be competing with an avalanche of charges and indictments.
Slightly off topic, but I hope that Biden moves expeditiously to remove all Drumpf US Attorneys via customary resignation (not a given with these guys) or, if necessary, quick firings. Obama characteristically played nice with them and several of the most egregiously partisan Bush US Attorneys declined to resign and were allowed to stay in place for many months. The quick moves to remove Robb and his deputy at NLRB and to de-Trumpify the VOA hopefully indicates that sterner measures will be taken this time around.
Schumer just now on floor of senate talking about how impeachment trial will proceed. He started with a funny slip of the tongue, referring to how Trump “incited an erection, er, insurrection” (making a face as soon as he realized his mistake).
Given how the overwhelming majority of terrorists were men, and that Trumpie men are famously sexually frustrated, many incels, perhaps this was more of a Freudian slip.
I’d suspect he heard it from Trump or representatives, like Rep. Barry Loudermilk who still has not been made to back up his claims. Raffensberger disputed each and every one, yet Loudermilk still objected to certification.
Put them all under oath and get their stories. That can possibly add to charges of election interference, or lead to new ones filed against those to tried to influence Pak. Run it down, of course.
McConnell is already trying to act like you know who never happened, and the Republicans are finding “unity” in trying to block and misconstrue everything Biden is trying to do. They truly are divorced from the country and ruling only in self-interest or the interests of their megadonors now.
In the meantime, the local morons are posting all day long on Facebook that Biden has already caused the stock market to tank and lied to them about their $2000 checks (it’s only $1400!) - and my neighbor across the road decided it was time to construct a 25 foot flagpole in his front yard with the U.S. flag on it 24 hours a day with a light trained on it.
I thought that maybe the insanity would start to clear, but here in Mesa AZ it feels more like it is just hunkering down. There will be no honeymoon.
This is the thing that gets me. Either the Republicans have totally outsourced their intelligence and thought processes or they’re lying to cover up a more nuanced ploy to try to blow up a minor conspiracy into a major one but were foiled when it turned out there was no conspiracy at all. Both scenarios are highly plausible to me; both render them unfit for office.
