A new top Justice Department appointee brings a bizarre past to the job: he was a state judge in Oregon but was, in 2018, suspended by a state ethics board over misconduct allegations. Vance Day, the ex-Marion County, Oregon, Superior Court judge, started work last week as a senior adviser in the Office of the…
This is a guy I know pretty well. Former head of the Oregon Republican party. I will say, in comparison to others brought into the DOJ, it could be worse.
IKR?
Yep, where do they find these weirdos. Is there a special registry? Or is it a karma thing that sends out a vibe that only they can connect to?
Damning with feint praise.
Not the worst asshole on the block is still an asshole.
Err… CPAC Convention?
Oh yeah, here in Oregon we remember this creep. He had been driven into obscurity as best I knew, so it’s hard to figure out who lifted the rock he had crawled under.
Right? I post under my real name here, so I have to be careful.
You ask, “Yep, where do they find these weirdos.“
Decades ago, Leonard Leo and the Heritage Program established what is in effect a huge “farm team” strategy to recruit and proselytize children while they are still in school. They provide paid internships in DC, with additional group training, to prepare the faithful.
Yep. The list is labeled “Only The Best!”
“Best” being a subjective term.
A scumbag role in a scumbag administration headed by a rapist.
I guess some of these folks never had their parents tell them “the world doesn’t revolve around you”. I’m also a bit surprised that as a Oregon Superior Court judge he was conducting any marriages, I mean he sounds like the type that thinks marriages not performed by a minister, priest, and grudgingly a rabbi are the only legal true conditions of holy matrimony.
Only the most beautiful, odious victims need apply…
Ethics schmethics. Ethics and moral qualms are for the weak. /s
“The only way to protect people from out-of-control prosecutors is to hire the right people and make sure they’re supervised.”
The Republican alternative is to hire the wrong people and give them absolute power, so Republicans have plausible deniability.

… … … … …
Ethics ?? Wassat? Some kinda electronic toy the kids play with?
He seems nice.
From the forgotten masterpiece, Miller’s Crossing: “That’s why ethics is important–what separates us from the animals. the beasts of burden, the beasts of prey. Ethics. Whereas, uh, Bernie Bernbaum is a horse of a different color, ethics-wise, as in he ain’t got any.” --Johnny Caspar
This “administration*” is full of Bernie Bernbaums.
They have an AI-generated list of all U.S. judges who’ve been suspended by ethics boards?
C’mon, what could possibly go wrong?
