Barr is narrowing it down to one scapegoat, who’s quitting the Senate anyway.
“Today’s clear exoneration by the Department of Justice affirms what Senator Loeffler has said all along—she did nothing wrong,” a spokesperson for Loeffler said in a statement shared with TPM.
Sorry, sweetie, but closing the investigation is not a “clear exoneration”. It just means the prosecutors don’t think there’s enough evidence to get a conviction or else the prosecutors don’t want to pursue it for some other reason…
Burr hasn’t delivered what Trump wants from him yet. Watch. Ot may just be keeping him off the Intel Cmte while an investigation is ongoing…it could just be punitive…but I think theres more. He wants something from Burr.
The credibility of the New York Stock Exchange and our markets has been seriously affected by the corrupt and sleazy activities of its directors.
At this point, is there anything in the Justice Department worth salvaging? Maybe the FBI, with an Augean stables level of cleaning?
Two points. First, as any good criminal defense attorney will tell you, not being charged is not being “exonerated.” As one said, “I have had many clients who are not guilty, but only a few who are innocent.”
Second, as a retired SEC Enforcement trial attorney, it would be difficult to prove a civil case, let along a criminal case, against Loeffler. She (and her husband) as securities professionals knew that all calls to a broker / investment advisor would be recorded, and all e-mail and texts to the “official” site would be preserved. So there may have been unrecorded calls and/or texts from burner phones, or not. Or, this may all have been done by veiled conversations that could be argued, if they became public, to the innocent.
Burr, on the other hand, was a rank amateur. I expect to see him take a deal and resign once the possibility of an election for his seat this November is past, as the North Carolina governor must appoint a Republican to fill out his term.
Burr resigns, the NC Republican Party is decimated by a virus outbreak at the National Convention, and as a result it accidentally includes Democrat Deborah Ross on a list of three individuals submitted by the executive committee of the state Republican Party to the Governor to replace Burr…
Even worse, the nominee must come from a list of 3 provided by the state Republican party. It’ll be Mark Meadows and a pair of odious assholes (this is not a straight line).
The investigations started the way they normally would, odds are Barr can’t stop it when something like this comes up. Burr was actually doing a decent job keeping the Intelligence committee activities bipartisan with Warner, so he’s being hammered by the DoJ to keep him out of that slot. Loeffler is being released to try to save the GA seat from Collins getting into the final round against a Democrat…she’s their hope to save it, even though she’s sinking like a stone because of this.
The sad thing is that thinking about the most corrupt reason for these actions is quite likely to be the actual reason with this DoJ and administration…we really need to get rid of them to avoid becoming a real dictatorship.
Only Burr has the goods on Trump, the rest are window-dressing to make their threat look bipartisan. Clearly, whatever Burr has on them, they still want it. Or they want him to just shut up. Someone’s leveraging to prevent information from being released…, if we knew what they are this worried over we might see the worst cracks in their fake armor.
Yup. Nailed it.
Makes you wonder who’s bankrolling them on this (yes, I know there’s a GoFundMe connected, but I’m still willing to bet someone else said, go on, I’ll pay your legal costs…)
I am at the point that I want to see a financial statement required from every legislature representative, cabinet member and agency top echelon personnel at the beginning of taking the office/job… and every 6 months all the way through the full year AFTER they leave the office/job. All this bullshit about ‘too much regulation’ is just that, bullshit. Every individual in the government that holds a position of trust owes me the assurance that they are working for me and not themselves. Nothing less than both sides of the aisle should demand this. Set up another sub-agency with Inspector Generals to HOUND these sneaks into being above board and honest with their financials. Let the Supreme Court pick the people that will run the agency and get the F%^@ing money out of the way of running the country.
Yes, but she’s also merely a symptom.
It may simply be for him to not be the chair of Senate Intel while the last shoes are being polished for dropping. IIRC there’s some reports being finalized …
What?
I was saying that there was a prima facie reason for carrier DOJ employees to start the investigation but given the corruption of the current administration we can not be sure whether the Loeffler was found to have acted properly or was protected by political appointees (with the latter being much more likely). I further said that in the next Democratic-led administration the investigation can be re-opened and conducted free of political interference, as long as DOJ can devote resources to the issue given that it and the whole administration will be fixing problems much more critical to the survival of our democracy than the corrupt acts of a single Senator or two (yes, it is scary that corruption by a Senator is a minor problem compared to all other issues we face).
So what other insinuations did you find in my post?
