Steve Bannon displayed such intentional contempt for the rule of law in defying a subpoena from the January 6 Committee that he deserves a near-maximum sentence behind bars, the DOJ argued to a federal judge on Monday.
I imagine that when Stevie Three Shirts finishes his time with the federal government, heāll be back in New York to answer the stateās charges for the Build the Wall fraud.
As I donāt see, āLive from the Attica Correctional Facility,ā as a realistic possibility, Iām expecting āWar Roomā to be in the hands of guest hosts for all of the foreseeable future.
Heās a first-time offender and six months is already pretty stiff, but itās justified by his disregard for the law and slamming the court in his podcast. Itās probably the maximum the DOJ could get away with, without the appearance of a politicized prosecution. He might get 2-3 months, but Iād be happy if he got all six.
Theyāre asking the maximum fine ($100,000/count x 2 counts), so thatās good. But they actually could have asked for 2 years. Six months will be letting him off easy. We can still hope the judge decides to throw the book at him.
You donāt think there are any trumpists in prison? That nobody there has ever heard of Bannon or listened to his podcasts? Bannon is an all purpose organizer, uniter, and rabble rouser. Bannon could get a big boost out of being behind bars.
Throwing the book at tons-of-fun would send a strong message. And how much more deserving could he possibly be? Heās practically begging to be sent to jail, daring the judge! Cool this loser off.
The Bannon sentencing recommendation is the maximum allowed by the guidelines. Anyone pissed that it isnāt more is selling rage. This filing is (fire emoji) and it couldnāt legally possibly be a harsher recommendation by DoJ.
Itās just a misdemeanor, albeit one with a 30-day minimum sentence. Iād be surprised if he gets sentenced to much of anything beyond those 30 days, which he will most likely serve at the D.C. Central Detention Center (the same place a lot of the J6 defendants are being held pretrial).
